The Miracle Of The Moment

Ever wonder why life doesn’t take a straight line? I think it’s because we’re meant to wander a bit — to meet more of life and the people in it.

Sure, there are experts who’ll help you get from A to B as efficiently as possible — and thank God for them. But Life? Life is the ultimate efficiency expert, and it prefers the scenic route. The detours, the off-ramps, the rest stops — they’re all part of the plan. That’s where we catch our breath, meet fellow travelers, and sometimes find a little magic.

People come and go on our journey. Some stay for years, others for just a few steps. Some leave without warning. But every one of them has a role — a message — something to offer us in that moment.

Right now, you’re exactly where all your past steps have led you. You may have planned to be somewhere else — but this moment, this place, is the only one available. So why not show up for it? Fully.

What if everyone you're meeting now was meant to be here with you — right here, right now? We don’t know how long they’ll walk with us. So accept them. Learn from them. Don’t wait until they’re gone to realize they had something to teach you.

You may have had your heart set on Toledo but ended up in St. Louis. If you’re too focused on where you should be, you might miss the archway to your future. Travelers see the scenery. Map-makers miss it.

I think it was John Lennon who said: "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." That line hits home when you realize how many of us are sleepwalking — clinging to the past, trying to recreate old moments like frozen statues. And statues don’t dance.

“Pay attention” really means give attention — to what’s in front of you right now. Put the map down. Feel the aliveness of the moment. Of the people around you. Because the people you meet today may hold the clue for your next step.

And if you ignore them? The lesson will come again — same message, different face — until you finally get it: That message? Be alive. Be here.

When you do, each moment becomes a miracle — not something to capture and preserve, but something to live. And in that state of aliveness, you won’t care if the road bends. You’ll just trust it’s bending toward something even better.

All the best,

John
