Common Ground

A friend of mine posted on Facebook that he’s been to 38 states. I’ve been to 43. But you don’t have to travel far to find common ground. In fact, you don’t have to leave your front porch.

Travel does open your eyes. You see different landscapes, meet all kinds of people, pick up a little local flavor. But the biggest thing I’ve learned on the road? We’re all running on the same fuel: life.

Sure, it shows up differently—just like tomatoes and zucchini grow from the same garden, but don’t look a thing alike. Still, they draw from the same soil. Same goes for us.

So why do some people seem to thrive while others wilt? In most cases, it’s not about where they live, but how connected they are to the source of life itself.

In every state I’ve visited, I’ve seen two kinds of people: those rooted in something bigger—and those trying to power everything on their own. The first group flows with life. The second tries to outsmart it. That’s a tough way to live.

It’s like trying to run a garden without sunlight or water—best of luck with that.

The truth is, we all come from the same source. And the sooner we stop trying to control everything and start trusting that there’s a better way, the better things tend to grow.

So if your garden feels stuck, here are two simple steps:

  1. Trust there’s a common ground beneath you.
  2. Let go of the need to control every inch of it.

Give it a go . . . and see what starts to grow.

All the best,

John
