Lucky Numbers

What’s your lucky number? Seems everyone’s got one. How ‘bout you?

Odds are, it’s really not that lucky; it’s more symbolic. Probably of a time when your luck was aplenty, and this number just happened to be in sight or within earshot. Pow! Instant association.

It has the same probability of bringing you luck as a St. Cristopher’s medal prevents you from having a fender bender. You’ve probably heard stories from people about how this medal saved them. What you don’t hear about are all the traffic mishaps that occurred on St. Chris’s watch.

But this isn’t really about lucky numbers or religious artifacts. It’s about having a supportive mindset – a belief in something that engenders a more optimistic frame of mind.

For example, you know someone who says, “If it wasn’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all.” Perhaps that’s you. That phrase becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. It’s your “unlucky number,” if you will.

But you also know someone who seems to attract luck more often than the average bear. If you examine their good fortune more closely, you’re likely to find a person with their mental glass more than half full.

Their optimism shows them more options because their mind is programmed to look for them. Whereas “unlucky Lou,” he’s steeped in the mindset that he’s destined to step into the next pile of dog poo.

I highly suggest you train your mind to be more optimistic. It opens more doors and presents more choices. It’s not a guarantee of more luck. It just has better odds of keeping you out of the muck.

All the best,

John
