Happiness Isn’t Permanent

I love being happy. I’ll bet you do too.

But if you're trying to make happiness your permanent address, that chase can actually cause it to visit less often.

When happy shows up, celebrate it. Bask in it. Soak it in while it’s here.

Just know this: happiness is temporary. It always has been. It always will be.

Now, that doesn't mean you can’t experience more of it. You absolutely can—by cultivating a happy mindset. That just means keeping an eye out for it and giving it a standing invitation. Like keeping the table set in case happiness drops by unannounced.

But here’s where we get tripped up: we try to trap it. We think we can catch happiness in a jar, put it on the shelf, and have an endless supply.

That never works. It fades. It always fades . . . until it circles back around again.

So if you’re looking for something a little more permanent than happiness, may I offer another option?

Peace.

Peace hangs around a lot longer than happiness. It’s that deep sense that things are okay . . . that everything is somehow taken care of.

And it’s closer than you think. It’s actually closer than your next thought.

That’s the key: less thinking, more peace. Find something that quiets your mind—whatever works for you—and do it every day. It's a surefire way to welcome peace in more often.

And here’s the kicker: happiness likes paling around with peace. So when you're at peace, set an extra place at the table—because happiness is likely right around the corner.

All the best,
John
