How Tasty Is Your Carrot?
Do you have a list of things you want to accomplish?
And no, I don’t mean a to-do list. I’m talking about the bigger list — the one with your passion-infused desires. Things that matter. The things you really want to achieve.
Here’s what I’ve learned: if you want to move forward, you need a very tasty carrot dangling on a string in front of you.
Now, that carrot might be something you need . . . or something you just want badly enough. But if it’s not there? You’re not going anywhere.
You’ll just keep running in place.
The reality for most of us? We have too many goals. And we don’t prioritize them. That results in scattered focus and watered down results.
So here’s a trick I use: I put them into two buckets.
Bucket one: the “nice to have” stuff.
Bucket two: “if I don’t get this, I won’t be able to breathe.”
Big difference, right?
See, we can set a goal and even put an action plan in motion . . . but if it doesn’t have that “tasty carrot” quality — if it’s not exciting, not compelling — the energy won’t be there to see it through.
Think about your own list. How many of those things have been sitting there for years . . . even decades?
Here’s a hint: they’re never going to happen.
And that’s okay.
It just means your list needs a reality check. Time to strip it down to the goals that actually light you up — the ones with real zeal behind them.
Because if it doesn’t excite you, get it off your list or you’ll never get off your ass to do it.
Again, this isn’t about errands or chores or to-do’s. This is about the list that makes your heart beat a little faster. The list that fervor has been waiting for.
So find your carrot — and you’ll stop stringing yourself along.
Finally, remember this: if it doesn’t have passion, it’s just a bucket list of S-H-I-T . . . that you need to Q-U-I-T.
All the best,
John
