What’s Your Reward?
“What’s your reward for doing what you do?”
That’s a question The Grasshopper posed one morning, moons ago.
We fill our days—our weeks, our years—with all sorts of “necessary” stuff. But how often do we stop and ask: What’s the payoff? The reward?
Because let’s face it—if there were no reward, we’d eventually stop doing it.
Now, I may be stepping on sacred ground here, but I’d suggest even Mother Teresa wasn’t completely altruistic. She devoted her life to missionary work, yes. But there was a reward in it for her, or she wouldn’t have kept going until death made her stop.
Even the most selfless people get something back.
No doubt, it’s easy to complain about what we’re doing. But if you keep doing it—day after day—there’s probably a hidden reward you’re overlooking.
Just scroll through social media and you’ll see it: parents posting about what they “have” to do. What you don’t often read is the other side—the reward they get for doing it.
Hey, we’re not going to stop complaining anytime soon. But maybe we can balance the scale by also noticing the payoff.
So let me ask again: What’s your reward?
And if you don’t have one, my guess is you’ll eventually go searching for something that provides one.
Here’s a suggestion: become a bounty hunter—find out what your reward really is. Who knows? It might just tamp down your complaints long enough to let you enjoy the payoff.
All the best,
John
