Are You On The Same Frequency?

You’ve probably said one of these lines before: “We’re not on the same page.” Or maybe, “We’re not singing out of the same hymn book.” My favorite is,“We’re not on the same frequency.”

Now, at first glance, those might all sound like simple metaphors. But here’s the twist—the last one? It’s more than just a figure of speech.

Science tells us that everything is energy, and energy has frequency. Einstein even put it this way: “Everything is energy and that is all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. That’s not philosophy—that’s physics."

So when you’re on the same frequency with someone, there’s a real bond. It’s more than just swapping sweet words or finishing each other’s sentences. Think about a couple in love. They’re not just reciting poetry together—they’re literally humming on the same wavelength.

The natural question is: how do you get there? Spoiler alert—you can’t think your way into it. Overthinking just creates static, the kind that pulls you away from connection.

Instead, try giving your critical mind a rest. Just be with the other person. No agenda. No mental script. Let the inner chatter quiet down and see what happens. And yes—for the control freaks among us—that feels a lot like walking a high wire without a net. A little scary. But it works.

Because when you let the conversation flow naturally, without over-preparing, that’s when the magic shows up. That’s when the same frequency comes alive.

If you’re not convinced, test it out in low-risk moments. Chat with the stranger in the deli line. Strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you on the bus. Or ask your UPS driver how their day’s going. When you let go of preparation, you’ll notice something: a spark of connection, a shared frequency.

And to borrow—and slightly bend—a famous line: “May the frequency be with you.”

All the best,

John
