Turning The Page, Not Closing the Book
You can’t live in today’s world without hearing the word closure. We toss it around all the time.
And usually, we think it means “the end.” But closure can just as easily be a beginning. It really comes down to how you approach it.
When someone says, “Let’s close the book on this,” what they’re really saying is, “I want this over with.” The real message underneath is, “Let’s finally be done.”
So when you say you’re looking for closure . . . are you trying to shut the book, or are you ready to turn the page?
Because shutting the book can feel like a fatal ending to one side. For them, life feels over. There’s no path forward. No options. No recourse.
But for someone else, closure is what lets them move on — to the next chapter, the next episode, the next part of their life. Yes, closure hurts. There’s no avoiding that. But how long the pain sticks around? That depends entirely on your mindset.
If you treat closure like a death sentence, you’ll end up living your life on death row — not celebrating anything, just waiting for the inevitable. But if you see it as the start of a new chapter, life comes back into focus. You certainly take time to lick your wounds and mend, but you don’t treat closure as “the end.”
Because there is life after death when it comes to closure. You just have to be open to it happening.
Close every door to the future, and you end up in a dark room where no light gets in. But crack the door open — even a little — and possibility can find you again.
If there’s one word to keep handy when you’re going through closure, it’s this: Next!
That word shifts your focus forward. It frees you from the past. It takes you on to the next chapter where possibility is the operative word. You untangle yourself from the past and become free as a bird.
All the best,
John
