Are You a B, M, or E?

Let me toss a question your way:

Are you a B person, an M person, or an E person?

Now you’re probably thinking, what the heck does that even mean?

Fair question.

B, M, and E—Beginning, Middle, End.

The three pieces every story’s built on. Most of us give attention to all three, but our main focus is on one of them.

Some folks love the beginning. They live in the past—focused on how things used to be, how life was better back then.

Others are all about the E—the ending. Eyes fixed on the future, always wondering what comes next.

And then you have the middle-people—the ones planted right here, right now.

Now, all three matter. They all have value. But one of them . . . one pays interest like crazy.

Because if you’re stuck in the past, you don’t move forward. The world keeps spinning, changing, shifting—and you’re still parked in yesterday. The past is a cute place to visit, but it’s a terrible place to take up residence. You’re basically living in a ghost town.

And trust me, I get the future-fixation too. I used to be that guy. I’d go to the movies and check my watch like every ten minutes, wondering how much time was left. I was so focused on the ending, I barely watched the story unfold. I missed more than I saw.

Now, if you’re an insurance actuary—sure, endings matter. You need to know when people check out of their earthly visit so you can price things right. I get it. But in regular life? If you’re always staring at the finish line, you miss what’s happening on the track.

The magic—the sweetness—it’s in the middle.

Don’t believe me, I could be making this up. Just ask an Oreo® cookie.

All the best,
 John
