Seek And You May Not Find
After living a "few years" on this planet, I've come to this conclusion: It seems to me adventure is in the seeking and satisfaction is in the finding.
It's funny — adventure and satisfaction are like the perfect latte: strong, balanced, but tough to mix just right. Even Starbucks hasn’t mastered that blend yet.
Too much seeking leads to too little finding. It becomes a game unto itself. — always searching, always scanning the horizon, missing what’s right in front of you. We become professional seekers, and like that old playground chant — “finders keepers, losers weepers” — we end up weeping because we never stop long enough to actually find.
And sure, you can find something you weren’t even looking for. And you can spend your whole life searching and never discover a thing. There’s no rulebook, no formula. Life doesn’t hand out a map.
A lot of people chase adventure endlessly — white-water-rafting, always-on-the-move, adrenaline, escape. Pick your poison. But what if they’re not chasing something? What if they’re running from something? What if the idea of finding themselves is scarier than any turbulent rapid or jagged cliff or unmarked jungle trail?
Because sometimes, we mistake who we think we are for who we really are. And if you’re convinced the person inside you is flawed or unworthy — well, why would you ever want to find them? Easier to stay busy. Easier to stay distracted. Adventure becomes the drug.
But here’s the irony: That scary, unlovable version of you? He’s not real. She’s just a bundle of conditioning — a story you picked up somewhere along the way.
And when you stop running, stop striving, stop trying so hard to arrive — that’s when you begin to find. Because finding happens when seeking finally takes a breath.
The moment you realize that the person you feared wasn’t you at all — that’s when something shifts. You meet the real you. The one worth coming home to. The one worth staying with.
And let me tell you — no adventure out there comes close to the one waiting inside you.
All the best,
John
