Your Journey

I saw a movie trailer the other day with this line: “Wherever you are in your journey . . .”

And it made me stop and think: Where am I in mine? The most honest answer I could come up with was . . . I’m not really sure.

Now if I were driving from Boston to Philadelphia and stopped at a McDonald’s in southern Connecticut, I’d know exactly where I was on that trip.

But in life? That’s different. I have little clue where I am . . . because I have no way of knowing what destination tomorrow will bring. I can’t triangulate if I don’t know where I’m going.

Sure, I can make plans for tomorrow, but then I hear that classic John Lennon line in my head: “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”

And that leads to a pretty simple discovery: Wherever we think we’re going, we’re always actually . . . right here.

Right here, right now.

You may want to be somewhere else. You may wish you were further along. But you’re not there. You’re here. And this moment is the only place you can actually stand.

Before this turns into a “Who’s on first?” routine, let’s make it plain: Right now is where you are on your journey.

The real trick is making the most of this moment by actually being in it — not wandering off into the past or the future.

The past is memory. The future is imagination. The only dot on the map you can actually stand on is the present one.

You can daydream about where you’re going or regret where you’ve been, but you can’t physically be in either place. You’re always here.

So use it. Lean into right now. The choices you make in this moment shape the next ones that show up.

You can’t wish yourself backward or fast-forward yourself ahead — you move forward by being grounded in the present.

Bottom line: This moment is where you are in your journey.

All the best,

John
