Three Magic Words
You almost never hear these words.
Not really.
District Attorneys will tell you they are baffled when convicted criminals choose a longer prison sentence rather than say these words out loud in open court.
And deathbed confessions?
Strangely absent of these words too.
It’s like the mouth just . . . locks up when they come into view.
Here’s the quiet secret.
These three magic words have the power to open doors that were nailed shut, bolted, and labeled Do Not Enter.
Saying them — or even writing them — can invite openness from people who wouldn’t give you the time of day yesterday.
And when you hear these words spoken to you? The way they mend a heart is hard to put into words.
So why are they so difficult to say?
Because the conditioned you — what some folks would call the ego — knows something.
It knows that the moment these words leave your mouth, it’s walking itself to death row.
This part of you senses its grip is slipping.
It knows it’s about to lose control.
And it doesn’t go quietly.
Say these words, and this false self — the one pretending to be you and bulletproof — cracks.
The façade drops.
The pretender is exposed.
Now, a warning.
These words only work if they’re spoken without an agenda.
No fishing for absolution.
No subtle bargaining.
No “I’ll say this if you give me that.”
Otherwise, the magic disappears.
So what are these three words that open the door to forgiveness . . .
that mend fences and hearts . . .
that quietly grease the skids for the ego’s demise?
You might not believe me when I tell you.
In fact, you could easily assume I just made this up.
And honestly?
It will remain just a theory . . . until you give it a whirl.
You’ll never own the experience I’m talking about until you put these words into play.
Once you do, it stops being theory.
And the benefits don’t expire.
Now, I didn’t say it would be easy. I said it would be rewarding.
Even practicing these words in the mirror can feel downright impossible — because this controlling part of you is more afraid of them than the Wicked Witch of the West was afraid of taking a bath.
You might not be ready yet.
Sometimes a message needs a little time to sink in.
Just don’t wait too long though. The longer you put it off, the harder it becomes.
So…
if you’re ready for an adventure ride you can’t reverse . . .
if you’re ready to loosen your grip on the past . . .
And if you’re ready to open the door to forgiveness . . .
Take a deep breath . . . and say these three magic words:
I was wrong.
All the best,
John
