Resourceful Responses

The title might be a little misleading.

You might be expecting a list of clever comebacks—
you know, “If they ask this, you say that.”

But that’s not resourceful.

That’s just regurgitating someone else’s solution.

The truth is, the more organic your answer is, the less likely it is to sound trite or canned.

So the real question is: How do we come up with truly resourceful answers—and actions?

You drill down to the source –to your untapped resources.

You’ve had countless experiences in your life. Some you remember clearly. Others slipped by without much notice.

But here’s the thing—none of them were lost.

They were collected subconsciously.

Every one of us has this storehouse of experience inside us. The problem is, we tend to draw only from the surface material.

And that’s limiting. That’s un-resourceful.

So how do we tap what’s underneath?

Two steps.

First—recognize that this wellspring exists.
 Second—request… and relax.

Here’s what I mean.

Pretend you have a deep, resourceful reservoir inside you. (Side note: you won’t be pretending.)

Now ask yourself a question you genuinely don’t know the answer to.

Then get quiet.
Relax your mind.

This is how the ancient Egyptian sleep temples worked.

People would pose a question, then enter the temple for a period of reflection.

What they emerged with weren’t the same tired reactions that had kept them stuck—
 they came out with answers . . . options . . . new responses.

Every experience you’ve ever had contains a lesson. You consciously missed about ninety percent of them.

But that resourceful part of you?  It didn’t miss a thing. It paid attention.

It cataloged every experience and its hidden teaching.

I call this part of you The Cauldron of Creativity.

So here’s the recommendation:

Dip into that melting pot more often. Do that, and you’ll find yourself responding—
not reacting—far more resourcefully to the sticky questions life throws your way.

All the best,
 John
