What GOOGLE® Can’t Answer
Who hasn’t used Google?
Honestly, it’s probably been referenced more times in the last week than the world’s best-selling book—the Bible—has been referenced in its entire lifetime.
And let’s be fair . . . Google is handy.
Really handy.Need a fact, a definition, directions, or a random answer at 2 a.m.? Boom. Done.
But it got me wondering: what can’t you Google?
I came up with a few:
What’s infinity?
Who ate the first oyster?
Does heaven really have pearly gates?
And was the Tin Man the first heart-transplant patient?
No matter how hard you search, those answers stay just out of reach. They’re unknown.
Which led me to this conclusion:
Google can’t tell us what’s unknown . . . until it becomes known.
So then the real question becomes—what does reveal the unknown?
Let me ask it this way:
Are you wrestling with a question Google can’t answer?
Yeah . . . me too. Plenty of them.
So how do we get answers when there’s no search bar for them?
Well, you’ve already experienced this—probably more than once.
Think about the aha moments in your life. Those realizations didn’t come from research or effort. They showed up out of the blue.
Which raises another question:
How do you get answers from “the blue” to show up for you?
You can wait and hope it happens again . . . or you can send an invitation.
And the invitation is simple. You get quiet.
You step away from the mental noise that drowns out insight. When your mind settles, answers have room to RSVP. They show up more easily when your mental room isn’t packed to the gills.
Find a way—your way—to quiet your mind and let the unknown do its work.
Sure, it takes a little longer than consulting Google.
But it delivers more awakenings than a bugle . . . at reveille.
All the best,
John
