My Cup Runneth Under

Back in the 1960s, there was a hit song called “My Cup Runneth Over.”

Long before that, King David used the phrase in a psalm in the Hebrew Bible.

Either way, it pointed to the same thing: abundance. Overflow. More than enough.

But there’s another version of that story that doesn’t get talked about as much.

My cup runneth under.

You mostly hear it hinted at by the “cup is half full” crowd. You know the type.

These are the folks who could win the lottery and immediately start complaining about the taxes.

See, “half full” is a mindset. So is “filled to the brim.”
And once you realize that, something important clicks: these frames of mind color everything we do—either bright yellow or pitch black.

Here’s the part that tends to get overlooked.

One of these mindsets quietly blocks you from receiving your share of any windfall that comes your way.

I’m guessing you already know which one.

This isn’t just another cheerleader message about “thinking positive.” It’s really an invitation to pause and take a look at which camp you’re living in most of the time.

Because once you see that clearly, you’ll also see how you either invite good luck in—or keep yourself stuck in the muck.

Optimism is a cup-filler.

It takes the blinders off thoughts like, “It can’t be done,” “Woe is me,” and “Why does this always happen to me?”

Instead, it keeps part of you alert—watching for favorable circumstances—rather than buying into the old Chicken Little mantra of, “The sky is falling.”

Henry Ford put it perfectly when he said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”

So if you want more of what you want, start here:
Fill your cup with an optimistic outlook.

Then get ready for a more fulfilling life.

All the best,
John
