How To Reinvent Your Future
You ever notice how easy it is to drag your past into your future . . . without even realizing you’re doing it?
It’s like looking into one of those fun house mirrors. Everything’s distorted. And the crazy part is – we trust what we see.
So we say we want a different future . . . but we keep checking the past for direction. And that past? It’s not giving us a clear picture.
Here’s the shift: the best place to look from . . . is right now.
Not yesterday. Not five years ago. Now.
Because now is the only place you can actually do anything.
I came up with something I call Self Acceptance Psychology. And the whole idea is pretty simple. Accept yourself as you are right now . . . warts and all . . . if you want to move forward.
Let me ask you something . . .
Have you ever met someone who’s clearly way out of shape, but they don’t think they are? Or someone who’s obnoxious . . . and has no clue?
That’s a distorted mirror.
They’re not seeing what’s actually there – so they just keep repeating the same patterns. Day after day. Year after year.
And a lot of us do the same thing in quieter ways.
We hang onto this idea that the future is somehow going to be different . . . without us ever really acknowledging where we are right now.
But if you don’t acknowledge where you are . . . how are you going to go anywhere?
You don’t have to like it. But you do have to face it.
I saw this all the time in my weight loss seminars.
People wanted to lose weight—but they were stuck. And a big reason? They hated their bodies.
So I asked them a question: “If you want to get a loan from someone . . . would you walk up to them and tell them you hate their guts?”
Probably not.
Because you wouldn’t expect any cooperation.
And yet . . . people do that to their bodies all the time.
And the result? Same thing: no cooperation.
Now, loving your body doesn’t mean lying to yourself.
There’s a big difference between: “I’m a big fat slob” . . . and “I’m 50 pounds overweight.”
One is an attack. The other is an observation.
One creates resistance. The other opens the door.
When you can start noticing what’s factually the case – without piling on judgment – you create a completely different relationship with yourself.
And that’s when things begin to shift.
Because now . . . instead of fighting yourself . . . you can actually work with yourself.
Here’s the bottom line:
You can’t change your past. And your past can’t change you when you keep dragging it forward.
If you keep defending those old patterns, you’re just recreating the same life in a different day. Growth doesn’t happen back there.
It happens right here. Right now.
Now is the only place your future is being shaped.
So every time you notice an old pattern . . . and interrupt it . . . every time you choose to see what’s actually here instead of what you think should be here . . .
you’re doing something powerful.
You’re not reinforcing who you were.
You’re recreating who you are.
And that reinvention?
It always starts in the same place.
Right here. Right now.
All the best,
John
