Faded Memories
Who doesn’t enjoy a walk down memory lane now and then? Sometimes it’s a beautiful trip. Other times, it hurts more than we expected.
Memories are funny that way. One minute they can make you smile about what once was . . . and the next minute they can make you ache over what’s gone. Same movie screen – different reaction.
The past has value. It shaped you. It taught you. It brought you to where you are right now.
But there’s a difference between visiting the past and living there.
Spend too much time replaying yesterday, and before long, you stop moving forward. You keep trying to recreate what was instead of creating what could be.
And if your time is spent wishing things were different, your future usually ends up looking a lot like the present you want to escape from.
People roll their eyes when they hear phrases like, “Be grateful for what you have.” Maybe it sounds a little too bumper-sticker-ish. But look at the alternative: constantly revisiting the past while missing the life sitting right in front of you.
So enjoy the memories. Laugh at them. Learn from them. Even cry over them if you need to.
Just don’t build a permanent residence on memory lane. The foundation there is made of fading moments and disappearing time.
The past is history. The future is unwritten. And the only place you can actually live, change, grow, and move forward . . . is right now.
Yes, make plans for tomorrow. But live today.
It’s the only way forward.
All the best,
John
