Who hasn’t experimented with a little AI by now? You know . . . artificial intelligence.
It’s everywhere. Like dog poop — hard to avoid.I use AI in a few areas: editing essays, retouching photos, cleaning up audio recordings, and creating YouTube graphics.
And here’s something I’ve noticed, especially when I’m trying to create an image that grabs attention for one of my recorded essays . . . like this one.
I noticed I have to be incredibly specific to get the result I want.
If my instructions are vague, the result is vague.
It reminds me of the old computer saying: garbage in, garbage out.And that got me thinking about our own minds.
How much garbage do our thoughts produce?
But then I realized something even more important: the junk coming out usually started with the junk we allowed in.
That brings me to something I learned almost 40 years ago . . . something called bad hypnosis.
Bad hypnosis is what happens when we unconsciously accept negative, manipulative, or destructive suggestions from the outside world — and let them take up residence in our mind.
But there’s a way to stop that.
You can actually put a bouncer at the door of your mind.
And the interesting part is, it only takes a little practice.
Here’s the exercise:
The next time you’re somewhere quiet and safe, close your eyes for about 30 seconds and simply say to yourself: “Alert me anytime a manipulative or counterproductive suggestion is being presented to me.”
That’s it.
What you’re doing is activating the part of your mind that recognizes bad hypnosis. You’re training it to intercept those thoughts before they settle in and start influencing your behavior.
After doing this a few times, it becomes automatic. Second nature.
You won’t have to consciously think about it anymore. Your internal bouncer starts doing the job for you.
What amazes me is that I only did this exercise once, for maybe 30 seconds, nearly 40 years ago . . . and it still works to this day.
Those mental “ne’er-do-wells” still get thrown out on their ear.
