The Only Moment That Exists

There is only one moment.

Not one moment after another. Not a string of moments stretching from birth to death.

Just this one.

You might say you had a moment yesterday. But that isn't a moment anymore—it's a memory.

You might be looking forward to a moment tomorrow. But that's not a moment yet—it's an idea, a projection.

The only moment you'll ever actually experience is the one you're in right now.

Think about it. From the day you were born until the day you leave this world, every experience you've ever had has happened in the same place: now.

The scenery changes. The people change. Your age changes. Your circumstances change.

But the moment itself never does.

It's a kinda like a clock. The hands keep moving, marking what we call time. But the face of the clock remains still. The hands represent change. The face represents the moment in which all change appears.

That's why I sometimes wonder if we've gotten time backward. We spend so much energy thinking about yesterday and tomorrow that we overlook the only place life is actually happening.

Now was here before you arrived.

Now will be here after you're gone.As the ancient Chinese sage Lao-tzu observed, "Amidst the worldly comings and goings, observe how endings become beginnings."

Life appears to move from beginning to end. Yet the moment itself has no obvious beginning and no obvious end.

So whether or not you agree that there is no such thing as time, here's something worth considering:

There is no better time than now to appreciate the moment you're in.

After all, it's the moment of a lifetime.

All the best,

John
