Optimism Creates Options

I’m a giant proponent of optimism for one simple reason:

It creates options.

A lot of people lump optimism together with hope and positive thinking. I don’t.

Hope and positive thinking usually focus on one desired outcome. You picture what you want and hope life delivers.

There’s nothing wrong with that. It can even help you feel better while you wait.

But optimism does something different.

Optimism widens your view.

Instead of locking onto one possibility, it opens you up to many. It says, "There may be a way I haven't considered yet."

That's a very different mindset. The next time you have a quiet moment, ask the optimistic part of you to show you more than one option.

Then pay attention.

You'll probably notice possibilities that were there all along – you just couldn't see them because you were convinced there was only one way for things to work out.

If hope and positive thinking help carry you through, keep them.

But if you'd like to expand your view of what's possible, give optimism a go.

It doesn't just make you feel better.

It helps you see better.

All the best,

John
