I Have The Wrong Beliefs

Has what you truly want been just out of reach for what feels like forever?

If so, you're in good company.

Of course, that doesn't make it any less frustrating.

If you're anything like me, you've probably tried to explain it away. Maybe my goal is unrealistic. Maybe it's pie in the sky. Maybe it's just never going to happen.

But no matter how much we rationalize it, the desire doesn't go away.

So what keeps a perfectly reachable goal out of reach?

My guess is . . . it's a belief.

A belief that quietly says, You can't have that.

Or maybe, You're not worthy of it. You don't deserve it.

Whatever the message, it shapes how we think, how we feel, and ultimately how we behave.

And here's the important part:

We always tend to act in harmony with what we believe.

You've probably heard the saying, "Change your beliefs; change your life."

Nice sentiment . . . but it leaves out one important detail:

How?

How do you actually change a belief?

The first step is simply noticing it. You have to catch the belief that's been quietly running the show.

Then, when it pops up, interrupt it.

Don't argue with it. Don't wrestle with it. Just interrupt it.

Every interruption creates a little space – a space where a different belief can begin to take root. One that's actually aligned with where you want to go.

No, it won't happen overnight.

But every time that old belief shows up and you interrupt it, you weaken its grip.

So maybe the better mantra is this:

Interrupt your beliefs; change your life.

That's how you begin replacing the wrong beliefs with the right ones.

All the best,

John
