Get Over It!

Have you ever had someone tell you, “Get over it!”?

That sounds like sound advice, doesn’t it? . . . but it’s really a directive without any directions.

I don’t know that I have a complete blueprint for getting over something, but I do have a place to start.

Ask yourself this:

What am I keeping down that wants to come up?

That’s a question worth answering.

Because whatever you're pushing down doesn't disappear. It stays there, quietly demanding your attention.

The moment you bring it into the light, you can finally look at it instead of carrying it. That’s where reflection begins, and that’s where some of the pressure starts to lift.

I can't tell you every step that comes after that. I only know the first one.

It reminds me of that famous Chinese philosopher who said, "The longest journey begins by tying your sneakers."

Begin the process of getting over it by taking the first step.

Acknowledge what wants to come up instead of pushing it down one more time.

Because getting over it often begins by bringing it up.

All the best,

John
