How To Be Comfortable In Your Own Skin

What does it mean to be comfortable in your own skin?

I've used that phrase for years, but it's surprisingly hard to define because it's more of a feeling than an idea.

Here's my best shot.

I think people who are comfortable in their own skin have discovered something important: they aren't their thinking mind.

We all have thoughts. We all have that internal mental chatter. But that's not who we are. We’re something much deeper than that. And the deeper you live, the more comfortable you become.

People who feel uncomfortable are often locked in an ongoing argument with their own mind. It's like two voices trying to decide who's in charge here.

But arguing with your mind is like arguing with a tape recorder.

If you saw someone yelling at a tape recorder, you'd probably think they needed professional help. The recorder just keeps playing the same message over and over.

Your mind does much the same thing. It replays familiar thoughts, old stories,      worn-out opinions. Then it quietly dares you to fight with them.

How's that been working?

I don't know anyone who's ever won an argument with their own mind.

So the mind keeps running the show . . . until we stop fighting with it and go deeper.

That's the idea behind my book, INTER RUPTION: The Magic Key To Lasting Change. It's based on a simple principle: don't battle your mind – interrupt it.

When you interrupt those automatic mental scripts, something opens up. You discover a quieter, deeper place where the arguments lose their grip and you begin to feel more at home in your own skin.

If you'd like to explore that idea further, you can download the book free at GrasshopperNotes.com.

If you want to have more say in how comfortable you feel, stop fighting with the old script.

Interrupt it.

Then discover the comfort that’s waiting for you beneath it.

All the best,

John
