A House Is Not A Home
A house is not a home.
That’s more than a famous book title or a popular song. It’s actually a pretty good description of us.
Your body is the house.
What’s inside is the home.
We spend a lot of time taking care of the house. We notice how it looks, how it feels, how it performs.
But we pay surprisingly little attention to what makes the whole thing come alive.
That inner life force is working 24/7 – beating our hearts, regulating our breathing, processing what we eat, and doing a thousand other things we never have to think about.
Your body, by itself, is like an expensive computer without a power source.
Think of your inner energy as the transmitter and your body as the receiver.
And maybe it’s worth occasionally tuning in to the transmitter.
Take a moment and feel the physical energy moving through you. Notice that subtle vibration that’s always there.
Your home is abuzz.
And once you start noticing that energy, you can begin directing it – inward toward your own body or outward into the world around you.
There’s something restorative about that.
Dare I say, even healing.
We already know, for example, that a welcome hug can trigger the release of oxytocin, a chemical associated with reduced stress and feelings of connection.
So, want more of that “homey” feeling?
Start filling your house with good vibrations.
Because a house may be where you live . . .
But your home is what makes it come alive.
All the best,
John
