Welcome to Dead Peoples Things podcast. I'm Luanne . I'm Gina .
Speaker 2:And I'm Barbara.
Speaker 1:You've got the three of us today. Woo . We promised Cindy Siber . We try to get the three of us together and it was a priority. So here we are.
Speaker 2:Here we are.
Speaker 1:We're sitting in Tina's living room that way. We were guaranteed she was gonna be here. Hey , I always want to be here. We know it's just a matter of getting here and not being at work. I know. But that's why we, we wanted to make sure that it would happen today. 'cause we've missed you. Oh , I've missed you too. Yeah . Well, we're down to the, to December and uh , we were kind of concerned there might not be as many estate sales this month, but we've done pretty good, I think. Yeah .
Speaker 2:We had a good run last week. Yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So Tina, you mentioned you'd been to a couple last week. Yeah. With Brittany and my husband. I drug them to a couple of spots and because I was specifically looking for a pot, I need to replant some , uh, some of my plants that are outgrown where they're sitting and I needed to find something to put them in. I found one pot, but not every pot. I still need to go out and get some more pot <laugh> . You need more pot? I need more pot . Pot . We've actually had actually been looking for pot all the last, the week before. That's right . I'm really low on my pot supply .
Speaker 2:<laugh> . Yes. <laugh>
Speaker 1:And Barbara. You we went to some. We
Speaker 2:Did.
Speaker 1:Um, any particular ones that were you thought were interesting or ,
Speaker 2:Um, there were a couple interesting ones. We, I think we really enjoyed that one that had very reasonable prices and we got a lot of things there. I wish we would've gotten there maybe the day before.
Speaker 1:That's okay. Wait, is that the hoy one that you It wasn't, it
Speaker 2:Wasn't ery.
Speaker 1:It just ,
Speaker 2:It wasn't maybe empty for a while and Yeah . Opened up or something. Yeah. Yeah . But yeah, there was a couple things that were kind of hitting me on the, when I looked at the photos on estate sales.net and it was like, oh , I wanna go and get those things. But we were there the second day and the things that kind of were on my priority lists were gone. Uhhuh <affirmative> . But that's okay. I still found plenty of other things. Yeah .
Speaker 1:So did I. Yeah , we , we had fun digging a little bit and , uh, finding what we needed. Um, we, we have, we did help Tina today decorate her Christmas tree. That's true. 'cause I've had it up for three weeks with lights and nothing else. It's been very naked. It does have a hat. So it's been a stripper tree up to this point. <laugh> . But today we dressed it. I told you we really missed Tina . Yes .
Speaker 2:<laugh> <laugh>
Speaker 1:Your humor. Uh, but I, I loved when we were decorating the tree, there were some , uh, items that I recognize. Ornaments that you got outta state sales this year. Absolutely. Absolutely. We've got some Santas on there and some really cool , um, just glass balls and things like that. But , um, I'm surprised we kind of made a vintage tree, you know. Well, I was thinking the older ornaments from my mom and from my , um, I'm sure she probably got some of those from her parents. And I just like the vibe Plus at the last estate sale we went to with the , um, $5 back sale that we went to. Yeah . Yeah . I've got all of those ornaments there that I got a boatload of ornaments from Pea Buckley Moss at that sale , and they were under a table. Remember me, that table just opening a corner of a box. I don't know if I've ever seen you so excited . <laugh> . Yeah . <laugh> . So I just started stuffing 'em all in a bag. I fit , fit well. There's probably 25 boxes there that I fit into A single bag. Bag. Yeah. You know, and we were looking at them today and they're porcelain. Yes . They're really pretty. They're porcelain. They're numbered. Um , they're limited editions . So we've got some dupes , so I'll probably be gifting some of those, but , um huh . But yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Very pretty. Yeah . I didn't realize they were porcelain when , until we started unboxing 'em . Yeah. That was really neat. So nice quality little
Speaker 1:Pieces. Five days before Christmas. Is it five days? I don't know who's counting. It's the 19th ,
Speaker 2:Thereabouts. 19th or six .
Speaker 1:Thereabouts. It only took me that long to get the, the ornaments up on the tree <laugh> . That's, that's okay. I am sure that I'll probably add another decoration before. Oh yeah. And I think this year, honestly, I'm probably gonna leave it up longer than I typically do, usually by the evening of Christmas or the day after. Mm-hmm <affirmative> . It's back in the box. But, you know, with my new work schedule, it's just not, I've not gotten to enjoy Yeah . Those kinds of things as long. So I think I'll keep it up through the 1st of January.
Speaker 2:But even though your tree wasn't up, you had decorated your house. Yeah . It's just little bits everywhere and your little concrete planter with your trees and your little deer . Cute . It's adorable. So cute .
Speaker 1:Yeah. Yeah . Thank
Speaker 2:You . We have to shoot a picture of that. Put that on the Yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:In your little mid-century house. My
Speaker 1:Little is so cute little deer sitting in the mm-hmm <affirmative> . You know, looking up for the snow.
Speaker 2:So it was plenty festive in here. Oh yeah. Can live out decorations on the tree.
Speaker 1:Yeah . Yeah. Uh, I don't , you know, we usually talk about nabs at the end of the show, but we've got a treat today that we're gonna do at the end. But , um, oddly enough, I realized over the last month, out of all the estate we've been to, I've had a thing, oh , I didn't do it on purpose.
Speaker 2:Okay.
Speaker 1:But I purchased three frog items. <laugh>, oh my gosh. The first one. This was a owl, but maybe 20, 25 . See the frog. Well, and I, I do have other frogs in my yard, like, you know, little Yeah. Garden things. Not a few real totes as well. Mm-hmm <affirmative> . But , uh, I first was that sterling little frog that I bought the jewelry. Yep . Oh , okay . Really cute little Stirling one. And then , um, last week when we'd gone to estate sales , I, in the garage there was something just calling to me from under a table and I pulled out this huge toad planter. Oh my gosh. And it's a to not a frog. Well, yeah, it looks like a toad. Yeah. And it was made by someone named Ethel. So of course we named the Toad. Ethel . Ethel. Yes, absolutely. How could you not? How could I not? And then it was at a , a shop, it wasn't at in a estate cell , but it probably came from an estate cell originally. It was a beautiful little frog. I'm gonna give as a gift. Oh , cool. Very cool. Yeah. That Barbara actually found one <laugh>. Yeah . But I thought , what a weird thing. Yeah. In a month to buy three frogs. Yeah , that's
Speaker 2:True. Yeah .
Speaker 1:That's , it's odd. Is there any odd things you've bought recently? Oh, almost everything. <laugh> . That's what the stake sales are about . Yeah. That , I mean, that's the whole point of an estate sale is to buy something odd. When Neil and Brittany went with me, I just kept handing me, handing them things to Carrie so that I could keep shopping. And they were like, what are you doing? And I'm like, there's really no explaining it. Stop looking for logic. Uh, you know, I got a Halloween pumpkin a week ago. Hey, you know, it was the best time to buy. I know, I know. So after the holiday, they're like, you know, this is December. Yes, yes, I do. But I don't understand what your point is. It will be November or October again. That's right . That's right. Year .
Speaker 2:It was funny. I , Todd and I stopped at a state sale not far from here , um, Sunday, I don't remember what day it was. And it had been pretty much cleaned out. Yeah. It was a house on some acreage. And then they had some barns a little further away, but they had a bunch of those old wood up cutout pumpkins on steaks. Oh yeah .
Speaker 1:With the little funny
Speaker 2:Faces. Yeah . And I debated, but I'm like, ah , I just don't wanna store 'em
Speaker 1:For Yeah ,
Speaker 2:Yeah . For the time or whatever. But they were cute. Yeah . And the , at that point they were like, just looking at your, what's in your hands and going like $2, you know, <laugh> , so , oh yeah. Yeah. Please
Speaker 1:Take these <laugh> We'll give you five minutes if you take them.
Speaker 2:Exactly.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So Yeah.
Speaker 2:Pumpkin's outta season. It's okay. It's
Speaker 1:Okay. Yeah . I love pumpkin. So <laugh> , I'll probably buy one in March, who knows. Well, in the week before we had , we went to , um, some estate sales mm-hmm <affirmative> . On a Thursday. And I know I got a Christmas gift at one of those sales. Did you buy any Christmas gifts this year at a site sales? Um, mine. You got my gift. Yes. Yes. I got your first <laugh> gift it an estate sale. And you got my Christmas gift, an estate sale . I did . I did. Yeah. But yeah, I, and I love that. I held onto that, that owl. I got , um, her a Jim Shore Nutcracker owl. And I held onto that since what end of the summer is when we found that. And I kept, every time I'd walk into my office, I'd say hello to it. And, and know that <laugh> , you're gonna go home soon. You're gonna go home soon. Um, and finally when it got to the Christmas season and we could legitimately decorate for Christmas, y'all came over for dinner and I ran to the back office and I'm like, I want you to use this the whole month. And so I I gave it to you early. Didn't wrap it, didn't say anything. Just said, Merry Christmas, this is yours. Go put him something awesome. And it was , uh, put out immediately. It's got a very prime location on a table right beside the Christmas tree. There you go. He's just so cute. You know, he had so much personality. For someone who doesn't collect owls, you have a lot of fun . <laugh> No, I admitted this year finally that I do collect them. Yes. Yeah. Gave me the freedom to get more Yeah. <laugh> . I know . Exactly. Not have to explain . Be defensive about it. <laugh> . There we go. There we go. There we go. Yes . So , uh, what about you Barbara? What's the oddest thing you have found recently? Do you think? I'm putting you on the spot.
Speaker 2:I know, that's a good question.
Speaker 1:I don't know
Speaker 2:That I found anything odd.
Speaker 1:It's, that's sad when it all becomes so normal to eat . Yeah .
Speaker 2:<laugh> ,
Speaker 1:That really says a lot about it . I know something.
Speaker 2:Oh, I guess that plaque I bought with you last week was kind of odd. That wild plaque . Yeah. So chalk , chalk wear , I'm assuming it's chalk wear . 'cause it wasn't concrete. Some kind of lady face with a peacock on her head with the tail coming in front of her.
Speaker 1:Like the bird is on her.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Like, it's like the, and then the peacock feathers kind of come by her face . It's interesting. It's
Speaker 1:Interesting.
Speaker 2:And it's, and and it's not in bright colors. No . It's like gold and silver . Silver and white. White . I think that'ss really interesting .
Speaker 1:Yeah. Very strange. I think it could be redone, repainted and really be striking. Yes. As it is now. It's kind of , uh, I don't know . Yeah.
Speaker 2:That's all. That was all , uh
Speaker 1:Mm-hmm <affirmative> . Yeah. I was thinking it was a full color peacock . No , that's , that is odd. Very creative. Mm-hmm <affirmative> . So what about gifts ? Uh , did you get gifts , so to say ? Sales ? I , did you get my gift in the ,
Speaker 2:I did not get your gift in an estate sale. I got it at a vintage store.
Speaker 1:Ooh .
Speaker 2:And Tina's, I got at an estate auction.
Speaker 1:Yeah. Um ,
Speaker 2:Did I buy any gifts for anybody else? Oh , think so. Your little animals that are h were hung on your presence . Those were from an estate sale.
Speaker 1:Oh . Oh . Well there , of course mine's an now and yours is a squirrel. <laugh> . The mine's a
Speaker 2:Squirrel corpse . And then I had, I had a couple more left 'cause they came in a little box of different animals. So , um, I put one on each of the girls' stockings kind of on top. So
Speaker 1:Anyway , that'd be cool. Yeah . Well I know I thrifted , um, something from estate sales for all the kids. One item for each of them. Nice. Yeah. And then yours was not And the estate sale was from the shop. Tina's was from an estate sound . Yeah.
Speaker 2:Yeah . Very cool.
Speaker 1:Cool .
Speaker 2:They have the best gifts.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah. They come pre loved <laugh>. You get all of the good mojo with them when you go , when you buy them . Yeah. So we could have gone to estate sales today, but we decided just to chill and just kind of enjoy hanging out.
Speaker 2:And I have enjoyed it.
Speaker 1:Me. It's been good. Me too. Sitting in front of the fire and talking about , we finally got ridiculous things and drinking mimosas. I mean, come on now. <laugh> finally got a little bit of cool
Speaker 2:Weather. Yeah . So
Speaker 1:Yeah . Yeah. Absolutely. It's been good. It's been good. Nobody has mentioned my dying points . Atta , I appreciate that . Oh no . What ?
Speaker 2:Just I don't see anything. So .
Speaker 1:Yeah . Really . It's funny about those. You have to water them. There're too , but <laugh>. Yeah, <laugh> . Yeah . I should just, just accept that sometimes I'm a hospice worker for
Speaker 2:Plants .
Speaker 1:<laugh> assuring them into the presence of Jesus, so . Yeah . Yeah . But anyway, that's our neighborhood train . Just ignore that. Hmm . What else? What else has been going on? Girls? Oh gosh. Barbara's been going for party to party to party.
Speaker 2:Lots of parties. Final one I think tonight. Tonight. Yeah . And so I'm ready for that. Ready? I'm ready for Christmas. I think I gotta wrap some gifts, but I think I'm good . Yeah.
Speaker 1:I still need to do Christmas shopping, but I have enjoyed holiday things doing holiday. Mm-hmm <affirmative> . Going to like holiday performances, even at churches I don't actually attend. Yeah. <laugh>, you know, I've done two of those now. And we've heard the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Brass and did a brassy Christmas and, and um, I don't know what all we're doing, but we've done a lot of, a lot of those kinds of holiday things. We're gonna go see the lights together, just drive through neighborhoods and Yeah . Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere. We're not quite sure where, but we're gonna do that. And y'all went to the Christmas parade, didn't you? I didn't . Did you? I thought you that . No, the little Christmas parade in our town went right down our street down there you go. All I do is stand on the porch. Yeah . Now if I want the kids to throw candy at me, 'cause they do not at you. Yes. I could have stood at the end of the driveway, but I didn't really need their candy. So Yeah . I just sit on the porch. Well, and I did some , with two of the concerts that we went to, we were the youngest people in the room. <laugh> , I went with my sisters to see the daycares . Oh yeah . Yeah. Um, a hometown Christmas. And you know, I was definitely, you know , uh, trending towards the younger end of that crowd, <laugh>. And then when we went to the , um, symphony, the symphony, I was definitely, you know, we were all definitely younger . Yeah. Than most of the , most of in the room there, <laugh> . So it was gray hair as far as the eye could see. It was like a blanket of snow, you know, in the room . Do you think it's just the, that generation, do you think the other generations just don't enjoy?
Speaker 2:I think that's probably it.
Speaker 1:I think that's probably it. But I think also the younger generations are probably busy trying to raise their families and do all the kids things and the kids' pageants and that kind of thing . Yeah . I realized that when we were younger, we were just trying to keep up with our kids. And this season has shown me that I have really enjoyed getting to do the things that we never got to do. Yeah . The ne the shows that you could just sit, enjoy and laugh and, and, and then just , um, go on to the next event. You know, one, when we were younger and raising our kids, we didn't have the money to pay for. Right. The tickets, the tickets to the Gaithers were 60 bucks. And so, you know, we would never have bought our whole family tickets for things like that. Only to have them wine halfway through that they wanted to leave or whatever. But , um, but doing those kinds of fun little things, it's, it, I don't know, this year it's made it feel more like Christmas, you know, that we get to hear those, the Christmas music mm-hmm <affirmative> . And the, you know, all of those kinds of things. So it feels like Christmas even though it was, what, 70 this week? Yeah.
Speaker 2:<laugh> feels
Speaker 1:Like Christmas more than it has in a long time. Yeah . So I'm ,
Speaker 2:I agree with that for
Speaker 1:That .
Speaker 2:Yeah . Yeah. When I was putting up Christmas a couple weeks ago and it was funny, I stopped and texted the kids 'cause I was doing the stockings up the stairs like I always do. Mm-hmm <affirmative> . And I just started tearing up and I was like, you know, and just prayed over each each kid as I hung their stocking and I texted 'em and said, Hey, just really excited about Christmas and that , you know, we're gonna be together and Yeah. But no pressure. <laugh> <laugh> , I keep saying that over and over again. 'cause we're trying to make plans of who's gonna be where and I'm like, this is not, we're just asking for planning. There's no pressure for you to be a certain place at a certain time, but we kind of need to know. So Yeah . I keep using that words . There's no pressure. 'cause I feel like now we're getting to that stage where there is this, you know, more , there's other , other families . There's other families involved. Yeah . Oh yeah. Because , and so I just don't ever wanna be the one that's like feeling like they got to be under the thumb or that Oh yeah , we're gonna put anything on 'em .
Speaker 1:So that's spicy . You are the cool ones. So
Speaker 2:I , good , good answer . But , uh, yeah, but I just, just remember just, and I never really, you know, you throw everything up when you're trying to decorate. I know you've been doing it lo slow and mm-hmm <affirmative> . And low mm-hmm <affirmative> . But you know, I had like, I have this day to get this done, but I took that time and it was really, it was really special. Good.
Speaker 1:Good. Yeah. I've thoroughly enjoyed being in between jobs and being able to sit at home Oh yeah. Um, in the mornings especially. And just, you know, the light of that Christmas tree Yeah . And enjoying my coffee and if I decide there's some little something I wanna move or decorate different, I do it and I do that . I've always done that. That's my Christmas activities. Yeah. <laugh> Oh yeah . Is continuing to decorate every day until <laugh> . It's just what I do. It's not because I do it for anybody else. I just love doing it. Yeah. Just kind of , I joke with my husband, I kind of play with the things that I've got. Um, but yeah, I just enjoy it and it's been a good, good relaxing time. Yeah. Yeah. Because yeah, when you have kids, when you have small kids especially Oh yeah. It just exhausted by the time it gets there, you're just like, oh , you're just pretty much glad it's over. And then you gotta clean it all up. <laugh> . Oh , yeah. Yeah. Well, this year for the kids though, I mean, especially for the little itty bitties , the grand , uh, the grand babies , we are not buying toys because they get 500 toys from everybody else. Yeah. Um, we are doing experiences like we are , um, taking two of them to the aquarium and we are taking some of them to the zoo and, you know, just doing different things, things That's great . On Saturday, we're taking , um, some of them to go get , um, stocking stuffers for their moms so that they can buy Oh , that's dogs cute . That the moms won't know about until they get them on Christmas Day. You mean they didn't pick out something at the book Fair <laugh> . I know, right? That's what I got . Exactly.
Speaker 2:I remember the Avon catalog and ordering
Speaker 1:Stuff Oh
Speaker 2:Yeah. For my mom from the Avon catalog.
Speaker 1:Absolutely. So we're gonna do those kinds of things this year and, and that's great. It's just more about, you know, as we go through these estate sales. Wow . You know, Neil and I were walking through that one on Saturday and he said, you know, this is what all of our things are gonna end up like, is walk people, strangers walking through our house. And I said to some extent, but I think we've curated enough that our kids are gonna want a lot of what we have. But that's, that just highlights that the best memories come from experiences. And honestly, those folks created beautiful Christmases for their family with the things that they have. Mm-hmm . So what's probably happened is their kids have picked the things already that meant the most to them. And this we get to love them a second time around. Right . Give them another chance. Right. So, but it's, it's gonna be a cool, a cool holiday. Cool . Yeah. Well, I'm not gonna say I won't be going to another estate sale <laugh> before the end of this year, because that's s you know, today is Thursday. There's estate sales tomorrow and Saturday. Yeah. Could end up at one and there's and some in it after that matter. True . Well , and
Speaker 2:Then there's some maybe the week after
Speaker 1:Weekend after learning. Maybe after . Yeah . Yeah . I bet there will be
Speaker 2:Just , maybe not a
Speaker 1:Lot, but they've had a purge and make room for all the, all the new crap they got . Yeah. You know, of course the state sales, those people have gone and gone on. They're not making room. Yeah. But nevermind. Some of them are moving, but Yeah , most of them. Yeah. Yeah . There'll
Speaker 2:Be, there'll be some stragglers. I think
Speaker 1:Either way they're moving <laugh> , they're either moving on from this side to that side, you know, or to some little new apartment or something like that. But they moving. Yeah. They're moving. They're definitely moving. So did you , do you, we talked about funny things. We talked about , uh, gif . Do you have a , a favorite nab that you wanna talk about? Well , I, and , and this is gonna be sappy, but my favorite nab is here we are again, a year later, still doing this together. <laugh> . And you guys are my favorite. Nabs.
Speaker 2:Amen. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. So just time with each other. Mm-hmm <affirmative> .
Speaker 1:Definitely
Speaker 2:Looking ahead to 20, 25, 5. We realize
Speaker 1:Thrive in 2025,
Speaker 2:We realized that Yeah. We're gonna have to carve out a weekend day for us to Yeah . Do that. Yeah . So we're just have to be very intentional. Mm-hmm <affirmative> . About just having girl time. Yeah. At least once a month. Maybe more, more
Speaker 1:Than that. Yeah.
Speaker 2:<laugh> Well, I mean, just us girls. I mean Yeah.
Speaker 1:More than that. My husbands tend to like to hang along and hang out with us. And we're finding that their vibe is different than <laugh> . Yeah. We love them . Our vibe, we bless them . But 40 years in, I still love it. Different when, but our vibes are definitely different. Yeah , yeah . Yeah. The conversations are different. The things we do are different . Well, we have a conversation. <laugh> the three , their phones sometimes have conversations. They do. That's true. They do talk. They do. But it's not necessarily I've noticed something that we participate in. Correct. Yeah. We pretty much just sit and listen to them talk. Yeah. Because it's different things than what we choose to talk about. Yeah . So we're gonna , we're gonna be intentional, but they were probably equally as happy in their friendship as , as we are in our friendship. Yes . So everybody, you know, that's whatever, full your boat . Exactly . It's just different, a different vibe for guys than it is for us. Yes. It's, yep . Well, we're gonna end , uh, this podcast with what we hope you consider a gift. <laugh>. I'm not sure about this. Yeah. Barbara, we've had to talk her into this , but we think it's gonna work. She's not had near enough to drink to enjoy it. We should have drank a little bit, little bit more . More coffee than OSAs . Whats short? More? Um, you know, popular. We love Christmas , uh, songs, right? Yes . We love all of the fun. And one that everybody knows, I think is the 12 dates of Christmas. That's an old one. And you may not remember where the Lords were leaping and where the ladies were dancing, but you know, they're in their somewhere. Yes . Yeah. So we decided to compose , um, instead of the 12 days of Christmas, 12 days of estate sales. And we chose some items that are common Yeah . That you see at most estate sales. Um, and we're gonna a little sing song <laugh>. Yeah . We're gonna, we're gonna try to sing it for you . This isn't gonna , we're not gonna win a Grammy with this one . No, no, no, no. And you're not gonna listen to it over and over again. <laugh> . But try , or you may to do it at our mental health hearing. <laugh> . We're gonna try to do it at least once by the way. Yes . Before we do it, we got our report from our , um, year in podcast . Oh yes . From the platform that we use mm-hmm <affirmative> . And we've got people in Germany who listen to us. I know. Isn't that crazy? I think that's awesome. And they do, they dislike our accent. I don't know . I would like to meet both of them. <laugh>. No, there was more than that. And then , uh, was there, how do you remember what percentage or how many there were? But there I was surprised. Yeah. I'm like, what? And there were some other countries too. Who was who else? I don't remember . Oh , I can't remember. But the majority are in the Dallas area. Mm-hmm <affirmative> . Yeah . So that's where we are and that's where we know people. But I thought that's so interesting. There's people Yeah . In other countries listening to us. So, I don't know. I think it's cool. Uh, find us on Instagram and give us a shout. <laugh>. Yes. All right , here we go. Are we ready for this or a Google talk as it may be . Okay. Yes. I , I need speak German , so whatever . That was good . To whatever. <laugh> , The 12 days of the state sales . We're not gonna start from the beginning and do it all . We're just gonna , it's kind . Yeah . We're gonna start at the end and come Interest and and the interest. Yes . Keeping you all the way through. Yes. We're gonna start at 12 and work our way backward. Alright . 12 tubes have been gay . 11 gospel albums. 10 high school yearbooks, nine worn out sandals. Eight wicker baskets, seven creepy dolls. Six coffee monks . Five Stirling rings . Four garden hose , three py bowls, two candlesticks and a Tijuana bras whi cream . Merry Christmas . Merry .
