Have you ever been interested in putting yourself out there and trying something creative? Starting Out is an interview show that explores people's honest, raw accounts of starting something. Hosted by stand-up comedian Nick Durie, who himself started stand-up at the ripe age of 37, Starting Out features conversations mostly with stand-up comedians, with the occasional musician, writer, producer and others dropping by, and looking back on when they decided to try out something new, exciting, and scary.

It’s another doozy of a guest on Starting Out this week. If you’re a Canadian sports fans you know the name of today’s guest. He’s been the hockey columnist for the Globe and Mail, the author of the books Tales From the Toronto Maple Leafs and Hockey Fight in Canada, it’s Dave Shoalts. I met Dave at comedy open mics probably 5 years ago, and like his counterpart Gare Joyce, I always felt it was weird that I got to know someone who I was so familiar with.
