One More And One Turning Point
SPEAKER_01There's a power of doing one more. You'll do one more. You one decision, one relationship, one meeting, one, one fuck, one podcast interview, one fuck. Away from a completely different life. You don't like vision. You lack different perception. You think you're further than you are. You keep keeping it in that distance because you think it's so far away.
SPEAKER_00Every day every week. If this show has a positive impact on you and you see value in it, please share it with somebody and leave a rating in review so we can help more people win. There are few people in this world that fire me up more than Ed Milette, who provided that opening remark of doing one more, one thing, changing your
Episode 250 And The Power Of One
SPEAKER_00world. While that wasn't a conversation with Ed Milette and I, although that will happen someday, one day, what I want you to gain from this episode here, number 250, which some may argue is a milestone, is that all it takes to change your world and to change the world is one thing. One thing, one decision, one conversation. As I was thinking about what I want to share on a milestone episode 250, this is what was placed on my heart. To talk about the power of one and the impact that it can have in your life. A lot of what I'm seeing, or some of what I'm seeing out in the world right now, especially on social media, is impact being driven or measured by metrics, by the number of followers, by thanks for the thousands of likes and the new people that joined. And then on the other side, what I see are a lot of people that are being very vulnerable, which I appreciate, openly sharing how difficult it is to fall into the comparison trap and it being more challenging to put stuff out in the world because they are comparing what their stuff looks like to somebody else's, etc. And I can only imagine the thoughts and the inner dialogue that follows being in that type of situation. And I know, rather, I believe, that that is the case for a lot of people today. Whether you're putting content out in the world or not, it's this feeling of is this enough? Is this really worth celebrating? Is this really worth getting excited about? Because it's not there's not 5,000 people on there. I don't have 5,000 people that are following me, whatever the case may be. And I want to talk about all that really matters is one thing, one
Metrics And The Comparison Trap
SPEAKER_00thing, one decision, one episode, one conversation. That is all you need to make a difference in this world. Anything greater than zero, anything greater than zero in this world compounds. It's impossible to compound anything that is zero or less, meaning it is impossible to compound anything in life where you don't take action. If you have zero dollars today and expect rather, you can't put zero dollars into the stock market and then expect it to become something greater than that. You can put a penny, one penny in the stock market right now. And for all you know, you can wake up tomorrow and it can become worth four pennies, it could become worth dollars. You get what I'm saying here. We're gonna talk about the impact of one. Now I mentioned that we are one decision, one episode, one dare, one action away from creating something in life and perhaps creating everything that you could ever possibly imagine. The prerequisite is action. The prerequisite for your dreams to a different life, to a better life, to changing the course of whatever path you have created or been going down is one action. I remember starting this podcast in January of 2021.
Why Anything Above Zero Compounds
SPEAKER_00Five years ago, going on a run, my normal everyday route, just about everyday route, when I was living in my apartment in Mount Pleasant. And running for me is very much a reflective exercise. It is very much reflective on what has transpired, but I'd say even more so, it's where I create the future. And I remember the thought of a podcast in Win Today, and that being on my heart, and going for it, having one conversation, putting it out there in the world, not knowing what the heck I was doing, having a lot of doubts, looking at how many people subscribed, and wondering, is this really what I should be doing? There's not a bunch of people jumping on board, there's not a bunch of people that are subscribed. This isn't the top-ranked podcast, there's literally millions of podcasts. Is this really the right thing to do? Then I got one text message. One phone call. One episode came out. Another message, another phone call. Didn't want to get the next one out. Another text message came through. This has changed my life. I don't have to go to therapy anymore. This has made me have conversations with my mom that I haven't spoken to in years. This has brought my family back together. These are the things that I'm hearing from people that I never thought were possible because of one decision. One episode. One conversation. In the midst of all of the doubts that I've had in my mind. And I know that I'm sharing this because I know that the doubts that I'm sh presenting are probably not different than the ones you have right now or that you have had about should I really do this thing? And I want to give you encouragement that if you have one thing on your heart, it's there for a reason, go take action towards it. That is a signal. And it may not turn into this fruitful thing right off the bat. But as I mentioned, anything greater than zero compounds, here we are now, number 250. And I keep coming back because I know and believe in my heart that there is now one person
The Podcast Doubts Then One Message
SPEAKER_00that needs to hear this one message every week. And I don't always know who they are. And you're not gonna know either. You don't know who all is watching, but you are one person that is meant to do at least one meaningful thing in this life. And if I can be the catalyst for one of you, then that, my friends, is a win.
One Action That Changed History
SPEAKER_00Now I want you to think about how one thing has changed your life, or if you know of one thing that has changed somebody else's life, if not the world. I'm gonna give a few examples. People who did one thing that has changed the world. The first one I thought of was Martin Luther King, in that while you may be thinking, okay, well, there's a culmination of things, yes, there are, but Martin Luther King gave one speech. He had the courage, and I can only imagine what was going on in his inner dialogue before he gave the famous speech of I have a dream. I have a dream that one day there will be people who can unite each other and be together regardless of their skin color. And right after that moment, Martin Luther King shortly thereafter was assassinated, but he had the courage to stand up and share with the world, and particularly our country, that we will not have the division that we do today. And that was one of the most iconic speeches ever given by one person that took one action and I believe was a catalyst to uniting people. Here we are decades later, still reminiscing and appreciating that one person that took one action that has compounded infinitely. But it started with one.
Breaking Barriers In Endurance Sports
SPEAKER_00For those that know, I love running. I love sharing how running really can provide so many life lessons, and endurance sports provides so many life lessons. For the longest time, there was a barrier that could not be broken, two barriers rather. The four-minute mile and the two-hour, sub-two-hour marathon. One person, Roger Bannister, took courageous action, ran one race that shattered the four-minute mile, that then showed countless others that this is possible. We can do this. This is not something that humanity is limited by. Now, today we see mile records in the 330s, 340s. And if you're just under four-minute mile in the Olympics, you're actually one of the slowest runners if we're talking about the one mile competition, the 1600-meter competition. Because one person chose to defy the odds that then created the gateway, the pathway for countless others. The sub-two-hour marathon record, first broken by Elliot Kipchogee in 2019. Elliot's tagline was, I believe no human is limited. Meaning that the only thing that really holds us back from doing that one thing, from taking that one action, from putting out that one episode, from having that one conversation is our minds. Not our legs, not our mouths, not our hands, not our feet, our minds. Elliot goes out and runs a 159-41, paving the pathway for what is now today the new standard in marathoning, a sub two-hour marathon, which was deemed impossible for decades. One person, one thing.
One Question That Built A Career
SPEAKER_00And Chris coaches PGA tour athletes, UFC stars, has been an executive coach at Apple, some major uh Fortune 50 organizations. And I'll never forget when Chris and I had a conversation, he talked about how his life, how his career came to be. And summing up, summing up his journey, came down to one question. He wanted to coach PGA tour athletes while he was working on his master's degree at Arizona State University, who has, by the way, one of the best golf programs in the world. And somebody told him, well, for you to coach the golfers, that's going to take many more years. And, you know, maybe start off by coaching other sports, lesser known ping pong, fishing, whatever the case may be. And once you prove that you can be a good mental performance coach for those sports, then you can go talk to the golfers. And so he's he's complaining about it to one of his classmates and etc. And he says, Man, I really just want to coach the golfers, and I believe I can do it. So one person tells him to go do one thing go to the golf coach and just ask. Just ask the question: can I be the mental performance coach for the golf team? And he goes into that office, about to be finished up with grad school, with his we'll call it mental bulletproof vest, thinking that he's gonna get shot down and he's gonna be told this is the stupidest request ever. And what does the coach say within two minutes? Sure. Go for it. Absolutely. He goes on to become the mental performance coach for the golf team. Where do the majority of these college golfers go after ASU? The PGA tour. Who do they take with them? Chris Doris. Who does Chris Doris then become known by? Lots of professional athletes and major corporations all over the world. What did Chris Doris do to get there? Asked one question. It's not rocket science. I want
Ed Mylett Clip On One More Day
SPEAKER_00you to listen to this clip from Ed Milette that I believe really captures the power of one person doing one thing.
SPEAKER_02You were born to do something great with your life. And I know this is a leadership meeting, and I'm gonna give you some business stuff like my steps, but I want to remind you something. You were born to do something great with your life. You were. And by the way, you'd be surprised when you're doing it. My dad got sober, by the way, spoiler alert when I was 15. Never drank again the rest of his life. And I remember after my dad got sober, it was a very emotional time in my life. And I said, Daddy, are you never gonna drink again? He said, I can't promise you that, Eddie, but I will promise you this. I won't drink for one more day at a time. My dad stepped up one more day the rest of his life. And by the way, helped thousands of other people get sober himself in that journey. And I'll tell you why in a minute. That's it, that's worthy of applause. Absolutely. When my dad got sober, he was trying to get sober. I said, Dad, who would be any different this time? You've tried a bunch of times. He said, Well, two things, son, he never said this to me before. He said, number one, and he looked at me, he was crying. Almost told my dad cry once. He said, I love you, son. You deserve a father that you can be proud of. So do your sisters. He had never said he loved me before that I was 15. And he said, uh, and your mom deserves a husband she can respect. And he said, I also met this guy. I'm not gonna do it alone this time. I'm like, what's his name? He said, Jesus. We're gonna get to know him really well in our home. Now, now, after daddy died, my dad died a few years ago, after daddy died, I woke up crying one night. I'd already written a book called The Power of One More, kind of a little bit about this, because I believe you're one decision away from changing your life, one new relationship at any given time, one new thought, one new emotion, one speaker away from your life being different. But my dad had passed away, and I woke up. It's about 3 a.m. and my wife uncrying, she says, What's going on? So, babe, someone helped daddy. Now I'm 51 years old when this happens. I said, Someone helped daddy. She says, What, honey, what are you talking about? I said, I never thought about this. Someone helped daddy get sober. And it changed our entire family forever. I'm not on stages, I've never written books, I'm not a business, we're all in an island without this person. I don't know who they are. And by the way, honey, years later, after my dad died sober, he had told me the night he decided to get sober. He was going to take his life. They saved my father's life. I mean, we were at the church with the pastor, and I'm like, why are we here? Because they were looking for my dad because he had written a note to take his life. This person, this precious human, whoever they are, intervened and saved my family. Now that's living greatly. One person at a time. The power of one more person you help at a time. I think it's great to have the biggest church in the world, the stigma, but it's one family, one soul, one person at a time. This person helped my dad. My children are blessed because of this man that helped my father. And I didn't know he was a man. I told my wife, I said, I gotta find him or her. And I found him. I'm getting goosies everywhere telling you this story. Now, by the way, I don't have a cool name, it's Ed. Let's just be honest. I don't even look like an Ed. I look way cooler than an Ed. Let's be real. Right? I don't know when I look like a dick or something. You know, I don't know. I'm cooler than Ed. My dad's name's Ed. My grandfather's name's Ed. With my son, we stopped that crap. He's Max. We named him Maximus. Gladiator and my kid. Middle name's Ed. Middle name. I found the guy who helped Daddy get sober. Guess what his name is? Of all the names. Ed. The Lord has a crazy sense of humor. What's more amazing about this man is what qualified him to help my dad. See, the devil, the adversary, will get you convinced you're disqualified to make your dreams come true. It's too late, you're too old. Nah, it's that sin you've committed. It's your divorce, it's your bankruptcy, it's a thing nobody knows about. You're disqualified. You're punished. That's the adversary to. No, no, no, it's not even any of that. You just always been average. So that's sort of your fate. The devil will get you to believe that you're disqualified for making your dreams come true. Nothing could be further from the truth. God wants to use those difficulties, those sins, those hardships to serve other people. Watch this. You know what qualified this guy to help my dad get sober? Think he's a psychologist? Huh? Think he's got an MBA? No, you know what qualified him to help my dad? Here's that your life's about to change right now, this moment. You ready? Watch. This is what qualified him to help my dad. You ready? He was also a drunk. In fact, he'd only been sober 31 days. He was a drug addict and a liar and lived in the shadows, just like my dad. Why? Because in life, here we go, you are most qualified to help the person you used to be.
SPEAKER_00Look at that. It's almost like it's almost like it's magic, right? That wow. One person can change generations and inspire generations of change by doing one thing. You see, Ed's dad made a decision that for one day he wasn't gonna drink. And that decision was inspired by one person who then created the person that you just heard speaking there. Meaning that the catalyst for the Ed Milette that we know today ultimately is driven by Ed's father being inspired by one other person to take one action and has then created this one amazing human being that has inspired change in millions of lives all over the world, and pick up on that last thing that was said.
You Are Qualified To Help One
SPEAKER_00What I want you to hear there is that you don't have to have it all figured out. So if we go to the beginning, you only need to do one thing for one person, and you don't have to have it all figured out. Who helped Ed Milette's dad? A drunk. We've all had something that has shaped our lives, or that has perhaps taken us down a bad path, but we're bouncing back, or we've bounced back. And that is very much the key or the prerequisite to then be able to serve people who are going down that same exact path right now or struggling with that same exact thing because you were once there. Listen to another thing that was said. This person that helped Ed Milet's dad, who ultimately, again, because of that, is who created the Ed Milette we know today, didn't have an MBA, didn't have a million followers, didn't have an amazing YouTube channel, didn't have all didn't have anything. But he chose to help one person that's been down the same path that he's gone down. Therefore, every single one of us is qualified and able to do one thing that can help one person. To do one thing that is on your heart. To do one thing, to take one action that you can't stop thinking about. So while I'm grateful that we're at 250 episodes now, what I want you to hear is that this is really just me having one conversation in spirit and effort of helping one person.
Choose Your One Thing And Act
SPEAKER_00And if there's more, awesome. But I know and believe that there is one, and that's what gets me to show up. There doesn't need to be ten thousand followers for me to then feel, oh man, now I've made it. One person, one action. This is what lights my heart up. This is what brings me joy, and I want you to hear, or rather, think about that thing for you and not be deterred by the masses not running to you on day one. One. Find one thing that's on your heart, and if it's not on your heart, if there's not something there, then think deeply. What is one thing that you can do to make life better, to make the environment better, to make family better, to make business better, to make something that is special to you better? What is one thing you can do? Or what is that one thing, and what is one action you can take? And it's my wish that this is the catalyst for you to do one thing and win today. Thank you.
