Welcome one and all to URG On the Go podcast. You're there, we're here, and this will be a good one. This is the true voice of the automotive recycling industry. We are here for the pros that have a need to know that are on the go. I'm DJ Harrington, better known as the cardiologist. I'm the co-host, but the real co-host of the program is the talented Amanda Morrison, director of member and vendor relationships for URG. Amanda, how are you this beautiful day?
Speaker 2:I'm doing great. It's almost 70 degrees here in Texas. It's crazy. It's not even winter anymore. I think Kristen brought back the Mexico weather with her. She just got back.
Speaker 1:Grand Canyon, iowa, wherever she goes on vacation. We have had Kristen Alexander on the program. She's Director of sales and marketing for URG. She's been on numerous times and this will be a good one, kristen, how are you doing?
Speaker 3:I'm good, dj. Thanks for having me on. Um, like Amanda said, I am just recouping from the beach blues. Um, coming back to work after being at the ocean is just always hard, but I'm glad to be doing the podcast.
Speaker 1:What a hard life you have. You and Amanda have gone to a lot of shows too, though.
Speaker 3:We have, we have. So I was just recopying DJ, before the call. You know, last week, just this year I mean it's crazy, it's only the 30th, but we've already done so much travel. You know, last week I got back from Palm Springs, another beautiful place. We were at the National Auto Body Council Gala so they gifted two vehicles to some veterans and that was a really great trip. And then, you know, amanda and I have both been to the stockyards in Fort Worth to visit some profit team with Mike Kunkel. So you know we're already kicking off the year strong.
Speaker 1:Mike Kunkel is a great addition to URG, believe me, Him and the profit team consulting group and Kunkel. He'll be speaking at the conference this year, so that'll be another listen he will be.
Speaker 3:He'll also be moderating Amanda and I's URG benefit session. So that's a session, you know, we would love to have everybody attend just to talk about URG. Not even for members, you know, just to make sure that you're taking advantage of all the programs that we offer. And for those non-members that you know just don't even know what we do.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you know. It amazes me, kristen, because when I was helping you know the car park we would do those conferences and you're not going to believe how many people belong to car park but never take advantage of all their programs. I believe it. Programs, I believe it. They sign up for URG or Team PRP and never take advantage of some of the programs they should be doing. And that's a real good example of URG, that's for sure.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and that's kind of what we're trying to do with going out to these profit team meetings and getting out there to these yard tours. You know we're planning a bunch of yard tours this year as well, with Christy, and getting out to these yards, yard tours. You know we're planning a bunch of yard tours this year as well, with Christy and getting out to these yards and really getting in front of their faces and showing them and demoing them all the different products. And then even at Profit Team it was so awesome to see everyone talk and network together and say you know, I've done really well on this program how come you're not on it? And just kind of comparing notes of what's done well for them and how to really dig into the benefits and really utilize it and see the profit from it.
Speaker 1:Hey, before you and Kristen do your report, can I ask you how is the pizza? Aren't you giving away pizza every year? How's that going?
Speaker 3:Yeah, I don't want Amanda to talk about that one, but I will say we did change it up so far. So, for for 2025, instead of randomly drawing um 12 yards from our member list, we're actually going to start doing it based off of social media activity, um. So for those of you who are listening, who listen to the podcast, or avid listeners, make sure you follow us on facebook and instagram, because we're going to start doing monthly posts where you comment or like, we'll put it in the post what exactly the specifications are. But that's how we're going to get you guys to start entering for our pizza wheel. But, amanda, you can talk a little bit about that.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah. So it's kind of just an initiative that we started last year, middle of last year, to just kind of show our appreciation for our membership. Last year, middle of last year, to just kind of show our appreciation for our membership. We have so many hardworking individuals that are working day-to-day in the business and they don't necessarily know that they're utilizing URG products. You know we have the core program that's, you know, in their yard management systems. A lot of times they don't necessarily know it's the URG program that's populating there and you know they're utilizing these day to day. And just letting them know, hey, you got your back and touching base with these yards and and making sure that they know that we appreciate them and appreciate their business too. So it's been a great way to kind of connect with our membership and they've been really appreciative. It's been awesome.
Speaker 3:Yeah, it was really funny. It was really funny, dj. The thing that stemmed all of the social media activity for the pizza was at one of the profit team meetings actually, everybody kept saying when are we going to get pizza? When are we going to get pizza? So it's funny. It's cool and funny to hear from all these yards you know that are out there that maybe we don't actually get to see on a day-to-day basis, but they're watching, they're watching. Shout out to those guys get to see on a day-to-day basis, but they're watching.
Speaker 2:Shout out to all of our social media followers you guys are awesome. Keep up the work, you might see some benefit.
Speaker 1:We had Blake Roberts on last week doing it and his podcast just dropped. When you hear that one and I'm reminding all of our listeners we archive all the podcasts. So if you want to hear a Mike Conicle or Rob Rainwater, Ryan Conicle, we archive all of them. And Amanda and I just did one the other day with Blake Roberts and he was phenomenal, don't you think so, amanda?
Speaker 2:Yes, he's a great speaker and he'll also be speaking at the conference too, so it's great to kind of get a little snippet of the speakers that'll be there and learn a little bit about their yard before you can go and see him at the conference. So it's yeah, it's been awesome. He did a fabulous job. And on that note.
Speaker 3:CJ, like Amanda said, Blake is one of our speakers. I don't know if you saw, but we did drop our session lineup, so that's officially live now. So everybody can go on to either the URG website or, you know, if you're not getting the emails, we can always add you to it. But we have released our schedule. So a lot of really good speakers.
Speaker 1:We're really excited for orlando this year yeah, and if you just go on to u-r-gcom and hit conference, just what christian said the entire agenda is there, the list of sponsors are there and I'm telling you now if you're an exhibitor and you have a product that you want to get out in front of over 2,000 decision makers, you need to be in Orlando, florida, april 10th through the 12th in beauty, sunny, beautiful Florida. All you guys, come to Florida in April, you'll love it.
Speaker 3:I know If that's not a reason enough to leave the cold weather. I don't know what works. I'm telling you, I that's just the reason I live in, like we were talking about earlier. Amanda said it's seven degrees here. I'm like, hey, listen, I'll go. I'll go to Orlando where it's hot.
Speaker 2:I love to eat yeah, and it's a great, great town to bring your family too. You know you can bring your family. They can go to Disney while you're going to the conference and maybe make a make a little trip out of it and and and bring yourself people too. That's another key thing is bring bring your people. You know you want to be able to train and and really instill a lot of knowledge into your, into your people that are working for you and create that loyalty as well.
Speaker 1:You know it just really helps develop your people as well as your business. So definitely bring them along too. Hey, Kristen, I was telling Amanda before you got on that I was making phone calls today for URG and you know, as soon as I started talking, I know you're calling about the URG PR conference in Orlando and I said, yeah, I just want to know if you're going to be there, if you're taking a booth, what's your options and make sure you call Jennifer. And I got Jennifer's phone number down.
Speaker 3:you know Jennifer McPherson's number 512 you haven't memorized it, I'll probably you'll start saying it in your sleep, literally. Well, let me tell you what dj I've been telling people I'm, I'm trying so hard, we're gonna, we're gonna have a record attendance this year. So if you're not, if you're listening to this podcast and you are not planning on registering, or if you haven't registered, you better expect a phone call from me, because you will be there.
Speaker 2:Or DJ, one of us will call you yeah, and I want to shout out DJ for being such an all-star for URG. He's always been such an awesome help in leveraging, getting people to the conference and being a voice for URG. So thank you so much, dj, for all your hard work that you do for us each year.
Speaker 1:Amanda, thank you, but I want to remind all our listeners before we thank you. But I want to remind all our listeners before we take a commercial break. I want to remind our listeners. You know why I enjoy doing it. I get the privilege of calling URG members and reminding them about the scholarship and a lot of them have employees or children of employees that all they have to do is go to the website u-r-gcom and it hits Scholarship Foundation and there's an application right there online that your employee fills out or their daughter or son fills out. And some guy actually yesterday, when I was making calls for the foundation, it was amazing because the guy said I have a daughter but if she's not going into business or into recycling, she wants to be a cosmetologist.
Speaker 2:And.
Speaker 1:I said that counts. Occupational school trade schools yes. Fill out the applicationational school trade schools yes. Without the application yeah. Free money, free money. Take advantage of it because college bills are just going higher and higher and higher.
Speaker 2:It's crazy I'm still paying off student loans right now and I'm 35. It's wild how those student loans can build up.
Speaker 1:You are not 35. It's wild how those student loans can build up. You are not 35.
Speaker 2:I am.
Speaker 3:I turned 35 this week actually, she had a birthday just this week. Dj, that's right. No, thank you, I wasn't lonely, you turned 21.
Speaker 2:Thank you, dj, you're so sweet.
Speaker 3:You're only as old as you feel.
Speaker 1:Amanda, exactly, exactly all right, we've had this answer. Let's do a fast commercial and when we come back we'll turn it over to amanda marston and she's going to give us all the updates. With kristin alexander hang tight, kate. With Kristen Alexander Hang tight, we'll be right back.

Speaker 1:Welcome back listeners. You know you're listening to the number one podcast in the automotive industry, the URG On the Go podcast. I want to let everyone know that every week we do our best to bring you informative episodes. We're available now on Spotify, itunes, pandora, stitcher, iheart Media. That's the number one podcast in the country Amazon or wherever you get your podcasts. And, without further ado, let me pass it over to Amanda Morrison and we'll go from there, amanda.
Speaker 2:Yeah, thank you, dj. Yeah, so we have a ton of new benefits that we offer. I think that's one of the things that I've been focusing on here in the last year or so is reaching out to members current members that have not been utilizing all of the different benefits that we offer, as well as notifying them of new benefits that we roll out. Chrissy, our CEO, she's amazing and is always looking for new opportunities and ways for you guys to sell parts and to feed your data to third-party vendors. So that's been you know her her main focus here, and she's working with a ton of other vendors as well, but one of the ones that I wanted to mention today because the beta will be up is the Mitchell program. So right now, we have been feeding all of our members data for free for the past few months to see if you guys can get some traction within the Mitchell estimating system, and so essentially, that gets your parts in front of these shops that are looking for, you know, those types of parts, and then, this way, it will show your inventory as well as, whenever February 1st hits, it will also show your tier yard inventory, and if you're not sure what tier yard inventory means come to me. That's something that I am very good at, you know. Running through and trying to make sure that you understand that's something that you need to be kind of keeping an eye on almost monthly is looking at your tier markups, and if you don't have tier settings set up, that's a huge benefit that we offer. You know that's something that can expand your inventory essentially, and you can set markups and delivery days to sell more parts. So we've got lots of different programs.
Speaker 2:That program, that beta, will be ending February 1st, so I do need paperwork signed in order to continue with that Mitchell data feed to keep that going. So if you guys are interested in keeping that going we have seen quite a bit of traffic on there we're able to kind of track where your parts are being seen. So if you guys have any questions about that, you can always come to me. And then we also have OPS, which is another integration that we have. Before it was just the manual version, and so it was just basically throwing quotes at you, hoping that you have the part, whereas we now have an integrated version where we can get your parts to show up within that platform, and so that's also just a great benefit, and so if you guys have any questions regarding new programs or existing programs, you can always come to me. Kristen, did you have anything you wanted to add on that?
Speaker 3:Yeah. So I was going to say Amanda did a great job kind of covering some of our newer programs. Obviously, don't forget that if you're listening and you're not a member, that's something that I cover. So if you're thinking, you know, you just want to dip your toes in the water with URG, you don't really know what to start. You're listening to the programs that Amanda's mentioning and you're like oh, I don't know if that's really for me.
Speaker 3:Don't hesitate to reach out because we so it's baby steps we train you, we talk you through all the programs. We help you, make sure that you're comfortable. So you know there's so many great yards out there that are willing to help as well. Just want to give a shout out to some of our newer members Union Auto Records they're one of our newer ones of the year as well as French Lake and Seymour and Brass Castle Auto. So just a quick shout out to all those yards that have joined. I know I'm working with a couple of other ones, so we'll have some more to shout out here in the next couple of weeks, but don't forget to refer your funds. You know there's always great benefit, as well as yards that maybe, like Amanda mentioned, you want to tier. If they're not a part of URG, they're a great conversation starter.
Speaker 2:So don't get too excited in my way. So yeah, and I wanted to mention too you know there are a lot of programs that are out there that you might be paying for that actually come with your URG benefits as well. So making sure that you're going through what we offer to see if you are actually paying for something where you might not have to because you have it through the URG member benefits. One of those things is the parts trader integration. We do a free integration with them so we can feed your data along with your tiering data, no extra charge for parts traders. So if you guys are feeding the parts trader right now and paying for it, you potentially could be cutting a cost if you switched over to the URG parts trader auto quarter.
Speaker 1:So if you want here and I'm kind of acting like I'm a listener who is or was thinking about joining URG, could you help them with their website?
Speaker 3:So that's one thing that I was gonna say. That's one thing, one thing that's, you know, really a big conversation starter. A lot of these, these yards that maybe haven't been on the org or aren't familiar with us, didn't know that we do have an in-house team that builds websites. So if you're in the market or you're looking for a way for customers to shop online for your parts great way to not only get your customers online, but also to get them to see the parts that you have in stock. You know, it's a way to start a phone call, start an online transaction, anything like that. That's something that we handle from start to finish and it gives them the ability to check out as well as search your parts. So definitely something we can help you out with, whether you're a member or a non-member.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, and I had a great conversation with H&H actually the other day and just kind of talking about digging into the member benefits and utilizing the different platforms that we have.
Speaker 2:Zane, over at H&H, was saying I don't want to butcher this, but he was saying that they were digging into the people that had the platform set up and the people that didn't have the platform set up and the people that did platform set up and the people that didn't have the platform set up and the people that did. They evaluated their front doors and the people that were set up on URG were selling 80% of their inventory, whereas the other yards that were not set up on those platforms were selling a third of it. So you know it can really make a big difference in selling your parts and getting your inventory out there and online. Like she's saying, you know you want to make a big difference in selling your parts and getting your inventory out there and online. Like she's saying, you know you want to make sure your presence is out there, right? Your customers aren't going to find you if you're not out there. So that's something we can help you out with.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I wanted to tell our listeners that Eagle Auto Parts in West Virginia are dear, dear friends of mine. I've known them for years and they wanted to do just the website. So they called URG, they joined up, they started doing the website. Now, one year later, they wish they had joined a long time earlier. They love it and it's just a great testimonial of how much. It was almost like Blake Roberts last month on the URG podcast, it was such a testimonial for what URG has meant to them and their family. It's been fantastic.
Speaker 1:And we really thank the people passing telling one another about how great the benefits are to URG, so it makes a big difference.
Speaker 2:Totally agree. Yep, yep. And, like we're saying, if you have any question whatsoever about URG benefits or if you're not a member, please, please, please, reach out to Kristen or I. We can help you out at any time.
Speaker 3:And I know that we kind of already touched about it, but I do want to segue into the conference. Kind of already touched about it, but I do want to segue into the conference A benefit of being a part of URG and again we're open that we have to offer, as well as our golf event on the Thursday night or the Thursday and, like DJ mentioned, that's a huge thing for our scholarship and I know that's one of his favorites. So make sure you register, make sure you come and see us and network with some of your fellow recyclers.
Speaker 2:Yep Are we ready?
Speaker 1:for another break, dj. Yeah, let's take a break and then I'll tease everyone when you come back. I want to tell you about one session that's going on at the URG Conference in Orlando, april 10th through the 12th. I'm going to tease you because when you get back from the break I'll let you know all about it. We'll be right back.
Speaker 4:The URG Scholarship Foundation was founded in 2014 in honor of individuals who give their talent, time and, very often, their own finances, to ensure the growth and success of the automotive recycling industry. We understand college is not for everyone, so each year the foundation offers substantial financial scholarships to auto recycling employees and the children of employees that are attending four-year and technical or trade schools, to assist with their education. Don't leave money on the table. If you have a child or if you're interested in attending continuing education, this money is available to you. Go to u-r-gcom and click on the Scholarship Foundation tab. Urg keeping our industry strong through education.
Speaker 1:Welcome back listeners. You know this is the URG On the Go podcast with Amanda Morrison, kristen Alexander and DJ Harrington, and I want to tell all of you URG knows that you know your business. Urg helps you grow your business and, as I told you before the break, helps you grow your business. And, as I told you before the break, I am proud to tell you that on April 11th we're giving two vans to tunnel to towers and we are working diligently. Now I'm not going to promise you that Jolly Roll will be there to accept it. He's going to be singing that night somewhere in Florida, so we're trying to get him to come, not to sing but just to say hi to everybody and accept the two bands on behalf of Tunnel to Towers. But right before the presentation at noontime on the 11th you have golf. On the 10th you have presentations and we'll talk about some of the people that are speaking. But one of the people that are speaking you ever hear of a company called Amazon?
Speaker 1:Mm-hmm, wouldn't you like to meet the person who does all the towing for Amazon? Wouldn't you like to meet the person who does all the towing for Home Depot? Wouldn't you like to meet the people who do all the towing for Lowe's? Wouldn't you like to meet the people who do all the towing for the American Red Cross? Wouldn't you like to meet the people who do every NASCAR meeting? Because that's who's going to be there that day and they're giving a presentation right before and it's called Towing and Safety.
Speaker 1:And the number one guy, mike Trecker, out of Michigan, who I want you all to know was brought in to DC to help pull people out of the water, today he will be one of the speakers that will be there. President Trump had his firm in DC helping out with the recovery of bringing bodies out of the water from the terrible accident, so that gentleman will be there speaking. The woman who heads up all of Amazon Towing, all of Home Depot, all Lowe's, all Red Cross nationwide she herself will be there. The president and CEO of INA will be there presenting together sewing and safety, so that if you have a tow truck in your facility and you want to learn some safety techniques to keep your people safe, you be at this conference. It's the number one premier event of the year and, without further ado, I'll pass it over to Kristen.
Speaker 3:TJ, I don't think I can top you ever. First off, just to kind of reiterate what you said, I know I'm a big Jelly Roll fan, so I know that if you can get him there I will be fangirling for sure from the sidelines, um. But regardless, our conference is really great. You don't need jelly roll to even entice you to attend um. Like dj said, we have a really great towing and stacy um session, but we've also again already released the session so you guys can go online and look at them.
Speaker 3:But just to highlight a couple of them, you know we we're going to kick it off. You know Dan Snyder is going to have a session and talk about who, what, when, where and how to share numbers. It's a really great way to get those conversation starters, as well as Brian Falco talking about driving leadership forward. You know we do have some marketing sessions as well as a social media session with Junior Tawalana over at Bionic. If you guys do not follow Bionic on social media, he started Big Cat Friday, so a good way to kind of follow them. As well as and I think he was on the podcast we had David with A Plus Auto, who's also killing social media, and then Vince Edelman with ARA.
Speaker 3:So they're going to be doing a social media panel, which I know I'm excited to watch and listen, to hear all their great tips and tricks, but those are just a little bit to come. There's so many great sessions, like you mentioned earlier Rob Rainwater, Mike Kunkel, all of the big guys are going to be there speaking as well. As you know, our sessions are not just geared for the big yards. We do have so many different sessions geared towards the smaller yards, the yards that are starting up, the self-service yards. You know there's going to be stuff for everybody, so don't miss out. It's going to be a good one and Saturday is kind of salesman focused as well.
Speaker 2:So, making sure you bring your sales team so that they can learn and network. You know, I think that's one thing that has been really beneficial for a lot of these yards is having their salespeople network with other salespeople. That way they can, you know, just pick up the phone and call them if they're, you know, stuck or they need a part, or you know it can really help, you know, gain your tier yards. You can, you know, make those connections and decide to tier and broker from each other. It's just a great, great way to be able to get together and really train your employees as well as you know, make those connections.
Speaker 1:You know, kirsten, when you said Dan Snyder and and and. Falco and Rob Rainwater and so forth. Dan Snyder had the number one. We had more listeners listen to Dan Snyder and have re-listened to Dan Snyder on his podcast let's call.
Speaker 3:Dan that, yes, we love Dan, we love you, dan, don't tell him.
Speaker 1:Dan Snyder. I mean, he gave such great tips, such great tips, and that's the reason why Blake Roberts listened and re-listened to Dan Snyder and came up with some more great tips.
Speaker 1:So all of a sudden you have that kind of people that are there. And I want to remind everyone, I think you learn just as much in the hallways of URG and Team PRP as you do inside the conference itself, Because you sit with people at dinner, at breakfast, at lunch, and you mingle with each other and you talk about, hey, how do you do your dismantlers, or what are some of the challenges you have? And I'm doing an EV project. What do you think you know? And then you got Dalen Zartman, the number one EV trainer of the world. He is going to be back by popular demand and he's going to be back.
Speaker 3:He is, and he's got two hours, so he's going to be doing a really good session as well. So, like you said, there's so many good, there's so many good. I actually had somebody email me while I was out on vacation saying, hey, like what am I going to do? There's so many good sessions. Like how am I going to attend them all? That's a great problem to have. I'm just going to say, I'm going to say that there's too many good sessions to pick from Make sure you
Speaker 2:go and look, Kristen worked her butt off on those sessions. She called all these people she had done so much for creating those sessions and worked hard with Christine. We all kind of worked together on deciding order and all that. But Kristen was a powerhouse with these sessions.
Speaker 1:I just want to shout her out as well, well, you did good. Zartman. He did the World Cup, he did all the training for the World Cup, and he comes from Dubai to here to come to URG and, as he told me over the phone, he said DJ, anytime URG needs me to speak, that is where I'll be, and so here he is. He's a wonderful human being and knowledgeable. Everybody sat there saying I can't write as fast as he speaks. Gotta, hit the record button.
Speaker 3:I'm sure people say that about me too. I'm sure that if you need to understand anything I said in this podcast, just replay it on slow-mo and you'll understand me. Great, right, amanda? Is that not something we've been told so many times before? We just get excited, we're passionate, and I'm sure that Daylon is too. He's just passionate about what he does.
Speaker 1:Well, I'll start us off. This is our last segment, so my parting shot to everyone, and I mean it very sincerely. I know you know your business, but URG will teach you how to grow your business and I hope to see you April 10th through the 12th in sunny Orlando, florida. Okay, amanda, I'll give it to you and Christian.
Speaker 2:Yep. So thank you, DJ, and yes, so come to the conference, learn a lot and also reach out to us If you have any questions about member benefits or any of the newer programs that we discussed on the podcast today. You know we have so many that we didn't even mention, so please feel free to give us a call, and if you're not a member, reach out to Kristen as well, and we'll hope to see you at the conference.
Speaker 3:We'll see you there.
Speaker 1:Hey, before you get off, Amanda, can you tell all our listeners about Facebook Live?
Speaker 2:Yes, yep, so Rob Rainwater has been doing the Facebook Live events. Kristen's been awesome about setting those up and so she's set up the speakers to kind of give little sneak peeks of the sessions on Facebook. So definitely pay attention to our social media. You'll be able to kind of get sneak peeks of the sessions coming up here in the next few weeks as well. Yeah, and Facebook Live is fantastic able to kind of get sneak peeks of the sessions coming up here in the next few weeks as well.
