La Vernia Bear varsity basketball players take to the air to defend the basket Feb. 10 against the John F. Kennedy Rockets in La Vernia. The Bears won, 71-45, claiming the District championship; find game coverage on page 5B. The Floresville Tigers also won their last District game Feb. 11 over Pearsall; turn to page7B for more on the game. The wins set neighboring La Vernia and Floresville against each other for the Bi-District title Feb. 18 in Seguin.
