Susanna Dickinson Chapter learns about U.S. Navy's 'Golden Thirteen'
The La Vernia-based Susanna Dickinson chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met on Feb. 11 in the Church of Christ fellowship hall in La Vernia. The Book Club met at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the book, Code Girls — The Untold Story of the American Women Code Breakers of World War II. Authored by Liza Mundy, the book includes actual photographs of the enigma machine the women constructed and various photos of these remarkable women who, according to Stephen Chamberlain, operations officer for Gen. Douglas MacArthur, “shortened the war and helped save thousands of lives.”...
