Patrick Kelly is determined to take on the 400-mile Texas Challenge this year, despite facing a bigger challenge than before. The Texas Challenge is an annual cycling event organized by Project Hero for military veterans and first responders who have physical challenges. Kelly became involved with Project Hero before moving to Wilson County in 2021, after enduring more than his share of physical challenges. Major physical injuries suffered during his service in the U.S. Marine Corps and subsequent medical conditions left him confined to a wheelchair in serious depression and severely dependent on opioids.
