Flying firefighter

Monica Arocha of Floresville captures the afternoon flight May 3 of a U.S. Air Force C-5M Super Galaxy over Wilson County, with Poth Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Steve Martinez on board. This marks Martinez’s final year of flying with the U.S. military before retirement. The Super Galaxy is among the world’s largest aircraft. The May 3 flight path took Martinez from Lackland Air Force Base to the Jourdanton area, before turning to travel over S.H. 97 toward Floresville and Poth; the plane then headed toward Austin.
