Firefighters battle Memorial Day blaze

Multiple emergency service agencies responded to a fire on Memorial Day, May 26, in far west Wilson County that took five hours to extinguish. The fire began in a metal shop and storage building on property at the intersection of F.M. 536 and C.R. 116, near Wilson County’s border with Atascosa County. “The call was dispatched at 9:02 a.m.,” Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) 5 fire and rescue Chief Adam Strzelczyk told the Wilson County News. “We were the first fire unit to arrive on scene at 9:29 a.m.” By that time, the building was fully engulfed in flames....
