Nelson to retire from U.S. Navy; event Aug. 30

Community members are invited to help U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Tammy Ramirez Nelson, a Floresville native, celebrate her retirement on Saturday, Aug. 30, from 12:30-5 p.m. at the Floresville Event Center, 600 S.H. 97 W. in Floresville. The event will begin with a ceremony at 12:30 p.m., with guest speakers. Guests can enjoy food and visit with Ramirez, who is retiring after a 25-year career with the Navy. Nelson is the daughter of Ophelia Silva of Floresville. She is married to U.S. Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Derik Nelson; together, they have five children.
