Nixon-Smiley drops first game of the season to Poth, 32-14
The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs’ unbeaten run came to an end Friday night, Oct. 3, as they fell 32-14 to the Poth Pirates in a hard-fought District battle. Despite a determined effort and a late push, the Mustangs struggled to overcome Poth’s balanced offense and stout defense. Offensive highlights Junior running back Garet Gonzales (5) paced the Mustang ground attack with 101 yards on 16 carries, averaging 6.3 yards per attempt. Junior quarterback Eric Rodriguez (2) added 18 rushing yards on seven carries, and sophomore Joe White (17) contributed 34 yards and the team’s lone rushing touchdown.
