East Central ISD responds to pistol incident

East Central Independent School District sent a letter to parents Oct. 1, after an unloaded pistol was found in a student’s backpack earlier in the day. The district advised that East Central High School entered a “hold alert” at 11:33 a.m. that day after receiving a report of a possible weapon on the campus. “Administration and ECPD [East Central Police Department] acted immediately, searched a student, and recovered an unloaded pistol in the backpack,” the district said, adding that no staff or students were threatened.
