ESD 5 suffers setback as sales-tax measure fails

Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) 5 has lost a second attempt to increase revenues through a sales-and-use tax election. In the Nov. 4 election, a proposition to adopt a 1.25-percent sales-and-use tax for the 256-squaremile district in central and western Wilson County received 681 votes for and 892 votes against. The tax would not apply to sales and use within the city limits of Floresville, where state and local taxes have already reached the 8.25 percent allowed by state law.
