Nixon-Smiley band members earn All-Region Band slots

Five members of the Nixon-Smiley High School Band auditioned Dec. 6 for the ATSSB All-Region Band, with two earning places. Auditioning in La Vernia for the honor were freshmen Ariamza Barajas and Avery Flores; juniors Angel Martinez-Jacobo, and Mark Quintero; and senior Camarion Rodriguez. Rodriguez earned first chair, Alto Saxophone, in the Symphonic Band; he also took first place, 3A Alto Saxophone honors and was the first-place overall winner for Alto Saxophone against stiff competition from 4A competitors. Martinez-Jacobo earned eighth chair, Clarinet, in the Concert Band, and was named sixth place 3A B-flat Clarinet. Congratulations!
