Arctic blast puts freeze on Wilson County

Old Man Winter — who usually gives most of Texas barely a passing taste of cold temperatures — caught the Lone Star State in an icy grip this past weekend. An arctic blast, attributed to Winter Storm Fern, sent temperatures across Texas plunging, in some places into the single digits, and Wilson County was no exception. Advance warning of the storm’s pending arrival had area shoppers clearing grocery store shelves to the point that the H-E-B stores in Floresville and La Vernia were bare of meat, produce, dairy items, and bakery goods. H-E-B also announced limited hours for the weekend....
