Saturday fire threatens La Vernia neighborhood

Residents of one La Vernia neighborhood are thankful this week, after firefighters contained a blaze Saturday afternoon that threatened at least one home on Crews Street. Wilson County District 1 Fire & Rescue was mobilized at approximately 2 p.m. Feb. 21 and sent six units to a property that backs onto the neighborhood on La Vernia’s southern edge. According to the report, the fire allegedly started from an illegal burn in a backyard that spread to the adjacent field, said District 1 Fire Chief Chris Thompson.
