La Vernia Police Department welcomes new Officer Goodwin

The newest officer patrolling the streets of La Vernia is home-grown. John “JT” Goodwin took the oath of office March 12 during the La Vernia City Council meeting, officially becoming an officer with the La Vernia Police Department. The 2019 graduate of La Vernia High School is the first member of the department to have been sponsored by the city as he studied at the police academy; the city council approved to sponsor a cadet in February 2025.
