SUV in high-speed chase hits ECISD bus

Twenty-three East Central High School students on their way to a one-act play competition April 10 received a jolt when the bus they were riding in was struck from behind by a black Ford Explorer involved in a high-speed chase. According to reports, the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection of U.S. 87 and Loop 410. The driver of the Explorer, identified as Brandon X. Cortina, 21, was attempting to evade Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol troopers, who had been chasing him from Gonzales County through Wilson County. After his Explorer hit the bus,...
