“I found this recipe in a box of recipes and newspaper clippings that came to me after my grandmother died,” said Wilson County News Editor Nannette Kilbey-Smith. The recipe for “Blackeyed Peas, Spanish Style” was included in the “Sara’s Swap Shop” column by Sara Spano in The Columbus, Georgia, Ledger, dated Nov. 10, 1971. “My dad’s mother, Marie Orr Whitlock, was a wonderful cook,” Nannette said. “She enjoyed entertaining and collecting and trying new recipes. “When I found this recipe, I was intrigued by the list of ingredients — and by the columnist’s comment about one particular item,” Nannette added....
