New World Screwworm case confirmed in Texas

  The USDA has confirmed the first case of New World screwworm in Texas.   The parasitic pest was confirmed June 3 by the USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The case involves a calf in Zavala County; no additional cases have been detected at this time.   A 20-kilometer quarantine zone is being established around the detection site.
