“The confirmed detection of New World screwworm in Texas marks a new chapter for our state.” Texas Farm Bureau President Russell Boening issued this sobering statement June 3, as the USDA confirmed the first case of New World screwworm in the United States, in an outbreak that began in 2023 in Central America and had steadily progressed northward through Mexico.
