Marco Martinez is the 'Big Squeeze' champ

Marco Martinez, 11, of Floresville, holds his new Hohner accordion May 30, after securing the win as Champion of the Rising Stars ages 12 and under, through the Texas Folklife’s “Big Squeeze” accordion competition (see “Accordionist Marco Martinez is Big Squeeze finalist, April 15 Wilson County News). In addition to earning the title and new instrument, Marco was named the 2026-27 Rising Star Ambassador for his age group, as a musician who embodies the spirit and future of Texas accordion tradition.
