Report reveals cause of fatal wrong-way crash

A two-vehicle crash on June 12 in which both drivers died was caused by a driver who was “fatigued or asleep” and drove the wrong way on U.S. 181 north of Floresville, according to the final crash report issued by the Texas Department of Transportation. According to the report, at approximately 9:20 a.m. that morning, Wayne Earl Christiansen, 53, was driving a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck, traveling north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 181; his vehicle collided head-on with a 2022 Ford Maverick driven by Daniel David Heinen III, 75.
