Fire crews contain 18-wheeler fire north of La Vernia

An 18-wheeler fire on July 1 caused a closure of U.S. 87 East near Loop 1604 near Adkins. According to Bexar County Emergency Services District (ESD) 12 Chief Lawrence Padalecki Jr., four units were dispatched to the scene of the fire at 7:03 p.m. U.S. 87 was closed in the area and traffic rerouted while first responders worked to contain the blaze, and emergency medical service remained on standby. Crews worked for several hours to safely extinguish the fire and clear the roadway, and the last unit cleared the scene by 11:23 p.m. The cause of the fire is unknown,...
