Lauren Gaudlitz of Floresville takes the Wilson County News as she visits historic Mount Vernon, the beloved home of George Washington, just outside Washington, D.C. During her visit this past spring, Lauren explored the estate, stood where our nation’s first president welcomed distinguished guests such as the Marquis de Lafayette, visited Washington’s final resting place, reflected at the slave memorial and burial ground, and took in the same beautiful landscape and Potomac River views that Washington himself once admired.
