La Vernia student dies in Sunday crash

As students made their way to La Vernia Independent School District (ISD) campuses for the first day of the new school year Monday, tributes were mounting at the southern edge of the city on U.S. 87, where a La Vernia High School student lost her life in the early morning hours Sunday. The 16-year-old female was traveling northbound on U.S. 87 near the city limits in a 2015 Lexus RX3 around 3:50 a.m. Sunday morning, Aug. 2.
